A Great Start For The 2023-2024 School Year!

Last year, we officially launched the Baylor University Talent Identification Program (Baylor TIP), and after a successful year, we are excited to announce that we are expanding our reach. In 2022-2023, we partnered with districts throughout Texas to provide our above-level testing to approximately 700 students, and we offered two weeks of summer day programs on Baylor’s campus. We have much more in store for this school year!

Baylor TIP’s mission is to identify students with exceptional talent in STEM and the humanities and to provide world-class learning opportunities for them commensurate with their potential. Baylor TIP focuses on both the identification of talent through our above-level assessments and the opportunity for students to develop those talents and interests through customized educational recommendations and out-of-school programs. Continue reading to learn more about our offerings and ways that students and their families can be involved!

Identifying Exceptional Talent

The first step of the talent search process is to identify student talent. To assist with this identification, Baylor TIP offers an online, above-level assessment that students can take individually or through their school. Students who are qualified to take the assessment will complete one of the following to be considered for admission as a Baylor TIP Scholar:

  • Indicator of Academic Readiness 8/9 (IAR 8/9) for grades 4–6, or
  • Indicator of Academic Readiness (IAR) for grades 7–8.

Qualification Criteria

Students qualify to take our above-level assessment through any one of three avenues

  • score in the top 25% on one or more subtest of a state or national standardized exam (local norms are recommended but not required),
  • be formally identified as gifted or talented by a district, or
  • be recommended by a teacher, administrator, and/or parent.

Testing for 2023-2024 begins in October, and registration is open now.

7th-grade Talent Search

Seventh-grade students who score exceptionally well on the IAR will be invited to celebrate their achievement with us at a Baylor TIP Recognition Ceremony in the spring. In addition, they will have access to specialized summer programs we offer through our Baylor TIP Academy. Students who wish to be considered for the awards ceremony in the spring must complete their testing by February 28, 2024.

Talent Development Programming

We are currently offering several in-person and virtual Super Saturdays throughout the fall and spring for all gifted students – whether or not they have been formally identified through Baylor TIP - so even more students can benefit from our courses.

In summer 2024, we will be offering residential programs for rising 8th-12th graders identified as Baylor TIP Scholars. Additional information about that programming will be shared with families by the end of 2023. We will continue to offer day classes during the summer for all grade levels at Baylor and are exploring partnerships with other schools to offer classes at their sites as well.
