WHY YOU SHOULD BUY BIRD FRIENDLY COFFEE
Our "Birds and Beans" Bird Friendly Coffee® is Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center certified and represents a gold standard in ethical and sustainable coffee production.
Bird Friendly® coffee is coffee that comes from family farms in Latin America that provide good, forest-like habitat for birds. Rather than being grown on farms that have been cleared of vegetation, Bird Friendly® coffees are planted under a canopy of trees. These trees provide the shelter, food and homes migratory and local birds need to survive. You'll feel better about enjoying a really great cup of coffee, knowing that birds were not harmed.

The Lamphouse Theater in Twin Falls will be showing Magpie Funeral from Friday, September 8th to the 22nd. Golden Eagle Audubon Society member and award-winning Boise filmmaker, Greg Green's feature film is a heart-warming and family-friendly drama starring Darren Burrows (Northern Exposure). You’ll see scenes of Idaho birds (including Black-billed Magpies)!
MAGPIE FUNERAL follows Sy McMurphy (Darren Burrows) who is a bird lover - especially magpies. In fact, Sy wants to witness a magpie funeral one day. Sy also yearns to be a successful screenwriter. But for decades, he has been sending screenplays to Hollywood directors with no success. For now, he has settled for an unsatisfactory job directing tedious shows for a local TV station. Randy (David Weisenberg) is Sy's boss at the station and long time nemesis who takes out his frustrations on Sy. Then one day Sy meets Nancy (Meredith Shank) and her five year old daughter, Lisa (Elizabeth Leach). Suddenly, events are set in motion which defy Sy's convictions of love and success.Watch the trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkmIvPQAkQM

A Wing and a Prayer -
The race to Save Our Vanishing Birds
|
"Three years ago, headlines delivered shocking news: nearly three billion birds in North America have vanished over the past fifty years. No species has been spared, from the most delicate jeweled hummingbirds to scrappy black crows, from a rainbow of warblers to common birds such as owls and sparrows. For the past year, veteran journalists Anders and Beverly Gyllenhaal traveled more than 25,000 miles across the Americas, chronicling costly experiments, contentious politics, and new technologies to save our beloved birds from the brink of extinction. Through this compelling drama, A Wing and a Prayer offers hope and an urgent call to action: Birds are dying at an unprecedented pace. But there are encouraging breakthroughs across the hemisphere and still time to change course, if we act quickly"-- Provided by publisher

Better Living Through Birding -
Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World
|
by Christian Cooper
"Christian Cooper is a self-described Blerd (Black nerd), an avid comics fan, and an expert birder who devotes every spring to gazing upon the migratory birds that stop to rest in Central Park, just a subway ride away from where he lives in New York City. When birdwatching in the park one morning in May 2020, Cooper was engaged in the ritual that had been a part of his life since he was ten years old. But when a routine encounter with a dog-walker escalates age old racial tensions, Cooper's viral video of the incident would send shockwaves through the nation. In Better Living Through Birding, Cooper tells the story of his extraordinary life leading up to the now-infamous encounter in Central Park and shows how a life spent looking up at the birds prepared him, in the most uncanny of ways, to be a gay, Black man in American today. From sharpened senses that work just as well in a protest as in a park, to what a bird like the Common Grackle can teach us about self-acceptance, Better Living Through Birding exults in the pleasures of a life lived in pursuit of the natural world and invites you to discover your own. Equal parts memoir, travelogue, and primer on the art of birding, this is Cooper's story of learning to claim and defend space for himself and others like him, from his days as a writer for Marvel Comics, where Cooper introduced the first gay storyline, to vivid and life-changing birding expeditions through Africa, Australia, the Americas and the Himalayas. Better Living Through Birding is Cooper's invitation into the wonderful world of birds, and what they can teach us about life, if only we would stop and listen"-- Provided by publisher.
