Memberships support the conservation, restoration and protection of our unique antelope-brush ecosystem, one of Canada’s most endangered habitats. Antelope-brush may not be flashy, but it is absolutely vital. This rare ecosystem supports more species at risk than any other plant community in British Columbia, including birds, reptiles, insects and mammals that exist nowhere else in Canada. When antelope-brush disappears, these species lose their homes.

Protecting this habitat isn’t just about wildlife, it’s about people too. Osoyoos Desert Centre is committed to making nature accessible to everyone. We believe outdoor spaces should welcome people of diverse abilities, ages and backgrounds. Our accessible boardwalk and upgraded accessible pathways and new accessible washroom coming this spring allow families, seniors and visitors of all mobility levels to experience our beautiful south Okanagan landscape together.

WHAT WE DO

Education programs

●  We deliver a range of educational programmes, reaching people of diverse ages and backgrounds, including local residents, students, families, and visitors from around the world.

●  Through guided tours, school fieldtrips, workshops and special events we continue to inspire curiosity and active concern for our desert landscape. 

Conservation

●  The ongoing preservation of the ODC site, enables people to "tread lightly" while exploring our unique natural environment, and ensures that this ecological gem will thrive for generations to come.

●  Habitat restoration such as invasive species remediation and wildlife monitoring including our two spadefoot breeding ponds and our 14 bluebird nest boxes is vitally important.

Enhance visitor experiences

●  ODC on average attracts 10,000 visitors each year - that's a quarter million people over our life-span!

●  We continually improve our facility, offering visitors an immersive and enriching experience during every visit.

●  Major accomplishments include: purchasing a new interpretive building, replacing our 1.5 km boardwalk, installing pergola shade structures over our courtyard area, accessible upgrades to our parking area and pathways and constructing new accessible washrooms coming this spring.
