Becoming New Creations

I thank you that you make all things new, that the past is over and done with, and ask that we become new creations, that we may have a new approach to the life you have given us to live, that we may have the mind of Christ.

And I pray again for a strong faith.

May we always be conscious of the continuous manifestations of your power and presence in our lives, that all things are within your grasps and under your control.

May we always go out into the world in peace that passes understanding that only you can give and which the world cannot give.

-from the Prayer Book of J. Barbee Winston,

SCAPC member, 1940-2011

News from Our Sister Churches in Cuba

Last month Kendall Cox, Director of Programs for Living Waters of the World (LWW), visited churches in Cuba where LWW have installed sustainable water purification systems and health education programs. Her experience and reflections are powerful. "Sometimes it’s easy for us to forget the tangible impact of generosity, of paying the blessing forward. This is part of our why, part of our calling—coming alongside our partners so they can be a beacon of light and hope in the midst of all the struggles." Of the congregations' resiliency she reported, "The greatest miracle I saw wasn't solar panels or water systems (though those are miracles for sure). It was churches refusing to let hardship determine how generously they love their neighbors. I came home convinced once again that we have much to learn from our sisters and brothers in Cuba." Click here to view her full report.

In 2012, SCAPC partnered with LWW to install water purification systems at El Fuerte and Juan G. Hall Presbyterian Churches in Cardenas, Cuba. Our volunteers return at least once each year to provide maintenance, supplies, and loving support. For details, visit our Cuba ministry page.

Seeing God All Over the World

Thank you to all who have sent us postcards sharing where you've seen God this summer! SCAPC member Jim Carter shared the following photos of him with his granddaughter Clementine from a trip to France last month:

"This photo shows a little of the stained glass and gothic support structure inside Sainte-Chappelle, the royal chapel across from Notre-Dame. It is very small compared to Notre-Dame where non-royals worshipped, but is very, very impressive."

"This photo is of us in front of the Cologne Cathedral. If I recall correctly, the entire city was flattened during WW II bombing except miraculously the cathedral. We visited a lot of very impressive cathedrals. Clementine and Stephanie actually climbed to the top of the bell tower in Strasbourg Cathedral - 400 steps. How could one not feel the presence of God."

Send us a postcard or bring one to church to let us know where you've been moved by the spirit! We are sharing them on the bulletin board in Frampton Fellowship Hall.
