Becoming Orange

Hello, !

This week's Becoming Orange e-Newsletter will provide instructions for your arrival to campus. As a residential or commuter student, it is important to review the Arriving instructions. Part of your Move In experience is to be welcomed by the Goon Squad, a group of student leaders that will physically help you unload your vehicle and move you into your residence hall. A fun fact: the Goon Squad is an 81 year-old tradition. If you have Orange in your family tree, they likely know about the Goon Squad! Learn more about the Goon Squad today!

For additional information or questions, please do not hesitate to email New Student Programs or call 315.443.9187.

Step 1: Prepare for Arriving

To view your move-in date and time, please complete the following steps.

  • Log in to MySlice.
  • Select the Student Resources tile.
  • Select the Housing and Meal Plan tile.
  • Log in to the Housing portal.
  • View your housing assignment and move-in date.

When viewing your move-in date, you will see a "start" time associated with it. Please note that this is the earliest time you may begin moving in, but you do not need to arrive right at that time.

Please Note: move-in date/time changes are no longer being accepted. If you need to adjust your move-in time, you may move-in unassisted after 5 p.m., Aug. 18-20, 2025.

On the Moving In webpage, select your unique living experience for more information.

Step 2: Arriving and Holding Lines

Personal Vehicle Arrival:

Arriving to campus will depend on your residence hall and move-in date. Please see below for more details.

  • Aug. 15-17: Proceed directly to residence hall and proceed to the main desk of your residence hall. Locate the address of your residence hall here. These instructions apply to anyone moving in to any residence hall during these dates.

  • Aug. 18-20: Proceed to your residence hall's holding line. GPS Directions for your residence hall's holding line can be found here.
  • If you are unable to make it during your assigned move-in date and/or time between Aug. 18-20, you may proceed directly to your residence hall after 5 p.m. on any of the three days of move-in that works for you. You will not be turned away after 5 p.m.
  • Shaw, Flint, or Day Hall Residents moving in on Aug. 18-20: Your holding line is in the Comstock Lot. From there, you will be dismissed to your residence hall when there is space available at the building. You will have received an Arrival Pass on Aug. 14 reflecting your move-in date. This must be printed and put in the dashboard of your vehicle. If you are moving in before Aug. 18, this arrival pass is not necessary and you may proceed straight to your residence hall.

Rideshare Arrival:

If you are arriving by rideshare (Uber, Lyft, etc.), please utilize the following directions.

Step 3: Moving In

Move-In Process for August 18-20 (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.):

  1. Check in via the MySlice Housing Portal. It should say "CHECK-IN VERIFIED" once you have completed this step. This is similar to checking in for a flight prior to arriving at the airport.
  2. Upon arrival at the unloading area of your residence hall, your vehicle will be greeted by Welcome Week Leaders, Goon Squad members, and Syracuse University faculty and staff volunteers.
  3. Students should proceed inside the residence hall to finish the check-in process, which includes receiving their room key, signing necessary paperwork and picking up their Syracuse University ID card.
  4. It is required that someone remains with the vehicle. That person can begin unloading with the assistance of the Goon Squad.
  5. Goon Squad members will help load items into moving bins and transport them to the student’s room.
  6. Once the vehicle is unloaded, the driver must immediately move the vehicle to the assigned parking lot to make room for others. Shuttles will be available to return the driver to the residence hall to rejoin the student.

For Students Moving In August 15-17, or after 5 p.m. on August 18-20:

This will be an unassisted move-in process. Students will have access to moving bins but no volunteers will be available to assist. The Main Desk of each residence hall will be open to facilitate check-in.

Step 4: Get Settled

Once your belongings are in your room, feel free to start making it your own! However, we ask that if you plan to make any "Target runs" or shop for additional room supplies, please avoid coming and going during the scheduled move-in times from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 18-20. Returning during these hours will prevent you from unloading directly at the building’s entrance and could create traffic issues for other students moving in.

You are more than welcome to unload your vehicle for these shopping trips after 5 p.m. on any of those dates.

Step 5: Attend Welcome Week

Welcome Week, Syracuse University's new student orientation program, is designed to on-board all new students through required academic events, milestone moments and social programming. There are programs and events beginning the day students move in. Use this time to meet others through social programming beginning in your residence hall on Monday, Aug. 18! Learn more about attending orientation today!

Family members, parents and supporters are asked to leave campus by 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025. Explore Parking information for Welcome Week today!
