Making your course schedule is a collaborative process between you and your home school or college. Completing these tasks as soon as possible will put you on the right track for the fall semester. Your academic advisors are here to support you along the way!

Placement exams are now available in MySlice! Using the chart on the Advising and Placement Exams, determine which exams are required for your school or college and how to access them. Placement exams are encouraged to be completed as soon as possible before completing the First-Year Registration Survey.

Your home school or college sent an email or will send an email to your Syracuse University email address (i.e. @syr.edu) regarding your First-Year Registration Survey, which can be completed using the link in the email. Complete the survey so your advisor can build your first semester course schedule. Transfer students will receive separate communication and steps from their home school or college and will not need to complete this survey.

FERPA

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of student education records. Students may complete a FERPA release, which will allow specified people (i.e.family members or supporters) to gain access to records, like academic performance.

Center for Student Excellence

First Year Seminar (FYS 101)

All incoming students will be registered for a First Year Seminar Course (FYS 101). This course is designed to support students as they transition to Syracuse University by helping them explore their personal identity, connect with campus resources and engage with the broader Syracuse community. Through small, discussion-based classes made up of students from a variety of majors, first-year and transfer students will build meaningful connections, strengthen interpersonal skills and learn from peers across disciplines.

SummerStart

A flexible, four-week online summer program for incoming first-year students to prepare for college. SummerStart allows you to start strong at Syracuse University.

• Get College Ready: a one-credit course with a peer leader and mentor to develop skills and confidence to succeed in college
• Get Calc Ready: personalized math prep with ALEKS to strengthen skills, before students' first college math course, with targeted modules
