Syracuse University’s Welcome Week is the official start to your becoming Orange journey! Some events are required, while others let you connect with peers, faculty, campus resources and the city of Syracuse, NY.

Welcome Week Schedules

Welcome Week has a variety of programs that are open to all new students, regardless of major, school/college or if you are living on campus or commuting.

To get a better idea of which events are required or optional—and to find ones that suit you—you can see the Welcome Week schedule in a variety of ways.

Tip: In the University Events Calendar, you can add each event to your Outlook calendar to create your personal Welcome Week schedule!

New Student Convocation

JMA Wireless Dome

Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

As a special academic ceremony, New Student Convocation marks the opening of the University and the beginning of new students’ careers at Syracuse University.

This event is required for all new students. Families and supporters are encouraged to attend in-person or virtually. Additional programming is available for families and supporters until 5 p.m., at which time they are encouraged to leave campus.

Community Meet Ups

Friday and Saturday, Aug. 21-22, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

These come-and-go sessions are the perfect opportunity to build community and make connections outside of your classes and residence hall. With two different sessions offered throughout Welcome Week, you can attend the meet-ups that interest you when you're not in any required academic meetings.

Citrus in the City

Sunday, Aug. 23, Noon-3 p.m.

A favorite each year, Citrus in the City takes place in downtown Syracuse. Several local vendors and restaurants provide samples throughout the day as we introduce you to the City of Syracuse, NY. Buses leave from College Place Bus Stop and Stadium Place Bus Stop beginning at Noon and will start running on a continuous loop back to campus later that afternoon.
