Becoming What We Are

Father Casey

An interview with the Commission on Ministry is one of the most important steps in the discernment process toward being ordained. This is a group of clergy and lay people tasked with helping the bishop determine if a person really is called by God to be a deacon or priest. As you might imagine, for the person being interviewed, it is enormously stressful. You have to put into words to a room full of strangers what you believe the Spirit is calling you to be and do, and that can be quite challenging. Thankfully, most commission members are kind, and their questions are not like an interrogation, but rather a deep, probing conversation among friends. There can, however, still be some surprises.

My wife, Melody, went through the discernment process in the Diocese of Virginia during college, and she appeared before the COM during her senior year. She vaguely remembers the questions asked her that day (my interview is similarly a blur), but one question was so unexpected and unusual that she remembers it to this day: “How is being a Christian like being...

Honoring Independence Day

You are invited to use the Intercessions Book, found on the podium in the Gathering Space, to inscribe your prayers for our nation: for its diverse people, majestic places, and noblest principles. Following each Sunday service we’ll celebrate with ice cream and our traditional Fig, friendly fellowship!

Almighty God, we thank you for the establishment of our nation upon principles of liberty and equality; give us a zeal for justice, so we may not rest until all experience the same freedoms; send your Spirit to heal the hatred and division that threatens our common life; and help us to always remember that our true citizenship is in heaven; where you live and reign, now and forever. Amen.

Bishop Search Survey Launched

We want your opinion! The Diocese of Dallas is conducting a search for a Bishop Coadjutor. This person will serve alongside Bishop Sumner and upon his retirement, will become the next Bishop of Dallas. To inform our search process, we’d like your input. Your responses will help the Bishop Search Committee develop a profile of the skills, qualities, and gifts that Dallas seeks in its next bishop.

Click the button below to access the survey. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes and must be taken in one sitting. While the survey can be taken on any device, we recommend one with a larger format screen such as a computer or tablet. The survey will be open from July 3 – July 29 and aggregate results will be shared at listening sessions across our diocese in late August and early September. Please Cathleen Dolt with any questions. You can follow information concerning the search from the diocese as well.

Eight High School youth along with Fr. Casey and Delynda Moravec will

depart on their pilgrimage to Scotland on July 12. We will pray over our pilgrims at the 9:00am service on July 7, and we invite your prayers for our youth throughout this holy and life-changing journey.

The Youth pilgrimage and Transfiguration Choir's trip to Scotland has been made possible, in part, by generous grants from the Transfiguration Endowment Fund, Episcopal Men's Fellowship, and St. Hilda's Guild.

There will be a "slideshow" presentation of Transfiguration photos, from the 1950's to early 2000's, which have recently been digitized. Tea cakes and sandwiches will be provided, and, of course, tea! What did the church building look like before the Gathering Space? What's all this about Big Fig Fever with our softball teams? Can you imagine the Triptych as a cake?! It's a come and go event–no registration required. See you there! For more information contact Alyson Thompson.

Vestry Committees Seek New Members

The Vestry is seeking non-Vestry members to be a part of its Mission, Ministry & Communications (MMC), Budget, Finance & Administration (BFA), Building, Grounds & Technology (BGT) and Safety & Security Committees. This is an excellent way to have a big impact on our church. Please let us know if you are interested or would like to learn more about these committees.

A Special Way to Give

Did you know that the Transfiguration Endowment Fund was first established decades ago with a $100 gift from Fr. Terry Roper? And this past week he made another contribution in honor of his 89th Birthday. You, too, can honor significant milestones in your life, or in the life of someone you love, with a gift to the Endowment. In fact, an anonymous donor has pledged $1 for every year being celebrated by such a gift, which led to an additional $89 being donated in honor of Fr. Roper's 89th Birthday. To make a commemorative gift for yourself or someone else, donate through Realm or mark “Church of the Transfiguration Endowment Fund” on the check and indicate the number of years in the memo line. If you have questions, please contact Elizabeth Jenkins, Endowment Development Committee Chairman.

The Power of Summer Sun

As we rode the solar roller coast to the longest day of the year in June and, now, we begin the long decline of daylight during the latter half of the year, you can see that our departure from the nave did not mean the building was not working.

During June the roof of the empty nave:

  • generated 5.4 Mwh of electricity
  • offset 4.3 tons of carbon
  • contributed the equivalent of planting of 65 trees, charging 485,181 phones, or powering 6 electric cars to drive coast-to-coast across the U.S.

But, when look at production for the first half of the year, it:

  • generated 24 Mwh of electricity. The average Texas home uses 12 Mwh per year.
  • offset 19 tons of carbon
  • contributed the equivalent of planting of 286 trees, charging 2,143,134 phones, powering 25 electric cars to drive across the U.S. or 3 EVs circumnavigating the planet, or fully powering 2 average homes with electricity for a full year.

While our roof contributes only a small portion of the total electrical usage of our campus, it is worth remembering that we host one of the larger total roof area solar generation sites in the state of Texas. It produces significant power and is a reflection of our commitment to being stewards of God's Creation in every way we can.
