What does your business do?

SECNY Federal Credit Union is a non-profit, full-service financial institution dedicated to helping our members achieve financial success. SECNY Federal Credit Union is a community credit union open to any person working, living, worshiping, attending school, businesses and legal entities in Onondaga, Madison, Oswego and Cayuga counties. We provide a wide range of financial services, including savings and checking accounts, auto loans, mortgages, personal loans, debit and credit cards, and digital banking solutions. Because we are member-owned, our focus is always on people—not profits. Every decision we make is centered on improving our members’ financial well-being and strengthening the communities we serve since 1971.

Why does your product or service stand out?

What sets SECNY apart is our commitment to education, personalized service, and community impact. We take the time to understand each member’s unique financial goals and provide guidance tailored to their needs. We utilize Zogo (a gamified financial education platform) to help first-time home buyers and first-time auto buyers (First Ride EXperience Program) to help educate our members. PLUS: SECNY members can link their cards and pool reward points across both debit and credit card programs! SECNY also operates four student-run branches in local high schools in addition to our six professional branches. Our lending programs, financial education initiatives, and community partnerships reflect our belief that financial institutions should be accessible, supportive, and relationship-driven.

As a local credit union, decisions are made right here in our communityallowing us to respond quickly and thoughtfully to the needs of our members.

What is your favorite part about the B'ville community?

B’ville is special because people show up—for events, for local businesses, for their schools, and for each other. There’s an unmistakable sense of pride and community here. That culture of connection mirrors our credit union philosophy: people helping people. Being able to serve and grow alongside this community is something I truly value.

What do you see for your business in the next five years?

With increased emphasis on financial education, we recognize additional opportunity to provide financial literacy programming and resources delivered by our experienced staff and utilizing specific technology for those who desire the digital experience. We expect to add more convenience services to our menu of offerings in addition to rolling out some new lending programs. Our commitment to service will remain strong, with continued staff involvement encouraged in our schools and communities!

What has been your most satisfying moment in operating your business?

Our most satisfying moments come when we help members achieve major life milestones—first auto loan (First Ride EXPerience), purchasing their first home, paying off debt, starting a business, or saving for their future. Knowing we played a meaningful role in improving someone’s financial confidence and stability is incredibly rewarding.

Beyond members’ individual milestones, our community efforts have strengthened the bonds that connect us all. Through local partnerships, volunteer initiatives, and financial literacy programs, we continue working to uplift and invest in the neighborhoods we serve—helping create a stronger, more resilient community for everyone.

What superpower would you like to have?

If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to instantly remove financial stress from people’s lives—not just by solving immediate challenges, but by giving them the knowledge and confidence to build lasting stability.
