Welcoming the New Year

Fall is a special time as we watch summer fade and leaves change, kids go back to school, and for many families, preparation begins for the high holy days.

All week long, JFS staff in the Kosher Meals on Wheels and Kosher Food Pantry programs have been hard at work preparing, packaging and delivering food to ensure Rosh Hashanah can be celebrated with a sweet and abundance harvest. We thank all our volunteers, staff and donors who help us serve all of our families in need of food. If you know someone in need of help or would like to donate to feed local families, contact us at office@jfsmiddlesex.org or 732-777-1940.

In observation of Rosh Hashanah, all JFS offices will be closed on September 26 and 27. We wish you and your family a healthy, happy, peaceful New Year -- one filled with joy, connection, and small and big delights!

L’shanah Tovah!

New Citizen, New Outlook

When Ms. P, a student in JFS' Citizenship program, started attending classes this summer, she was very nervous, yet ready to commit the next 12 weeks to preparing for her interview. She came to the U.S. from India 10 years ago, and through the encouragement of her family, she applied for Citizenship in the hopes of voting, traveling with ease, and continuing her life as a citizen.

On September 15, ahead of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day observed on September 17, Ms. P passed her naturalization interview and took her oath as a new U.S. Citizen. She stopped by this week's Citizenship class to share the good news and bring in treats to encourage her classmates to keep learning and practicing. She greeted her class with smile and said, "I am an American Citizen."

Join us in congratulating Ms. P for achieving this milestone! If you know someone who is interested in applying for Citizenship or preparing for a naturalization interview, contact 732-777-1940 or email office@jfsmiddlesex.org. Please consider donating to help ease the path for those becoming new citizens.

Helping Your Child This School Year

As children settle in to a post-COVID classroom, many parents and teachers are concerned with how best to support their kids as they navigate mental health concerns and social challenges.

Learn how to help your child talk about bullying and find resources to address mental health issues by attending "I Don’t Know How To Navigate My Child's Worries About Bullying" -- a webinar on Thursday, September 22 at 12:00 pm ET presented by the Center for Resilient Families at Arizona State University & Mental Health America. If you have questions about your child’s mental health, contact us at office@jfsmiddlesex.org or 732-777-1940.
