Patti's Pick:
Elderton "E Series" Shiraz / Cabernet, Barossa, 2014
Need to unwind after your Thanksgiving festivities? Try cracking a bottle of this undemanding Shiraz/Cab blend from Elderton. Velvety tannins, vanilla, and spice compliment a darker fruited core. Drink alone or with food (possibly friends if you are up for socializing). Casual fare like burgers, pizza, or pasta would pair nicely. Everything about this wine is low maintenance, from the screw cap to the price point.
-Sale Price: $14.99 (Regularly $17.99)
Dave's Pick:
Gratiot-Pilliere Champagne, Extra Brut Tradition
Now that we are full tilt into the holiday season, it's not hard to find something to celebrate. Traditionally that's meant Champagne. Of course, like most exceptional things, the price of Champagne has gone up but for those of us that love wine, Champagne brings a grace and intensity that is seldom matched in the world of bubbly wine. Thankfully there's Gratiot Pilliere. All three of the wines that we currently carry are excellent. The Extra Brut deftly combines fresh notes of ripe golden apple and light red berry with a lengthy mineral finish. Gets the party going and keeps it going. -Sale Price: $39.99 (Regularly: $44.99)
Patrick's Pick
Sudtirol St. Magdalener Classico, 2016
Yodel in German OR Italian!
As is the case with most border regions in Europe, the Alto Adige (or Sudtirol, if you wish) carries cultural traditions of more than a current National boundary. From the Roman Empire through the Hapsburg Empire to today's Italy, grape varietals unique to the high alpine valleys of the Alto Adige have produced light and aromatic reds.
In large part to being an agricultural cooperative, this very approachable St. Magdalener is no exception. This wine is a mix of Schiava and Lagrein grape varietals, unique to the Alto Adige. Grown in the same vineyard plots and harvested (as well as fermented) together the wine is only partially aged in oak. Light ruby red in color, you can expect floral notes of violet and rose pedal with scents of marzipan and almonds, leading to a smooth light palate, perfect for heartier appetizers, Tirolean cheeses, and delicate Spaghetti Carbonara. Saluti and Prost! -$21.99
Doug's Pick:
Onix, Priorat Classic, 2016
You might remember this wine from our grand tasting in September. It's composed of equal parts hand-harvested Garnacha and Carignan grapes sourced from vineyards encompassing the famous Catalonian village of Gratallops. The long, hot summers in this region create an ideal setting to coax deep, rich flavors from the fruit that manages to survive in this severe climate. It's showcase of dark fruit, earthy intensity and a long finish makes this a great option for the upcoming cold, long nights.  -$25.99
Ray's Pick:
Ulysses, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013
During the holidays you may be spending time with some special people. In that case, you should have a special bottle of wine! Ulysses Cabernet was a new experience for me and I'm glad I tried it. It was like getting the chance to cross a wine off my Bucket List that I didn't realize was on there. If you are a fan of Dominus Estate, BUY A BOTTLE OF ULYSSES! Owned by Christian Moueix, who was one of the founders and current owner of Dominus, and in the family of such Chateau as PETRUS, LE FLEUR-PETRUS, and Trotanoy! A winery in the family of some big hitters for a very fair price in comparison. Oh, and its a 2013 from Napa Valley.... Vintage of the decade. Drink now or cellar.  -$199.99
Madison's Pick :
Bodegas Valdespino, Tio Diego Amontillado Sherry
This isn't your grandmother's sherry. Roasted nuts, dried fruits, a touch of toffee, super dry with a really nice touch of saltiness. This is a single vineyard amontillado from one of the oldest bodegas in Jerez. Make 2018 the year you realize how great sherry is. -$29.99
