As followers of Christ, we Seek others in our community, Serve their needs, Grow in the love of Christ, and Connect with each other

Pastors Points

Transfiguration Sunday is this Sunday, and we have the honor of hosting Rev. Lindsey Baynham Freeman, the District Superintendent of the Mission Rivers District, of which we are members. This is a special honor, as Rev. Baynham Freeman oversees 107 churches from Stafford, all the down the Northern Neck to Norfolk. I hope you'll be to hear my friend come and share the Gospel.

Transfiguration Sunday is the last Sunday before the Holy Season of Lent. On this Sunday we are reminded on the mountain of the Glory of Jesus Christ and the affirmation that He was the Son of God, but then Jesus heads down the mountain with His face to the Jerusalem and the Cross. We glory in God's love in preparation for us too to set our face toward Christ's abuse and death.

The season ahead is one of the most important and powerful of the year, and we have planned some special opportunities to live into Lent. We start with an experiential worship experience in Kobler Hall, at 7:30PM on Ash Wednesday, then Pastor Emilee and I will be leading a book study throughout the season, and along the way we will be posting video devotions on our Social Media sites.

Every Sunday we end our worship services by saying together our mission statement. We are reminded that we are followers of Christ, seeking others, serving their needs, growing in our faith, and connecting with each other. Lent gives us opportunities to do all of this and more, and I pray that as we go through Lent, that Lent will go through us, bringing hope and transformation.

See you Sunday!

Pastor Tim

Where is God leading FUMC into the future? How might we be better poised to respond to God's calling to meet the needs of the community around us and nurture the spiritual lives of those within?

Last Sunday at our Church Hall Meeting, some leaders laid out a skeleton idea for how we might re-envision and restructure our committees and leadership structure; however, this is just a starting point. Because the church is made up of all of us, we need your help to discern what this new structure might look like.

Green Tip(s) of the Week!

Our United Methodist Social Principles remind us that the Earth is God’s creation—and we are called to care for it faithfully. Stewardship starts close to home: try choosing one small change this week, like switching to reusable grocery bags(talk to Allison X if you need some, we have many at chu, lowering your thermostat by one degree, or starting a simple recycling system if you don’t already have one.Faithful care also means staying informed about local and national decisions that affect God’s creation. Take a few minutes to read about one environmental issue impacting our community—and consider sharing your thoughts respectfully with an elected official. Small, steady steps at home and in our civic life can reflect big love for the world God made.
