Our Artists!!

Dear Roxanna,

A blessed and Happy New Year to all of our friends and benefactors!

New Year's resolution is a tradition, in which a person resolves to change for the better or accomplish a goal at the beginning of a calendar year. Our young men were asked to come up with resolutions. The following are the top 10 resolutions:

-         To attend weekly Mass

-         To help my parents and siblings more

-         To be a better student

-         To communicate better

-         To become a better person

-     To donate time to those in need

-     To practice healthy habits

-     To study harder

-     To ask for help

-      To appreciate others more

Based on the resolutions our young men came up with, you can see what good people you are helping to form. Remember we could not do what we do without people like you!

As we usher in the New Year, we also begin the process of recruiting for the Class of 2028. We will be visiting several local parishes to inform their parishioners of the amazing mission that we have undertaken here at The De La Salle School. This class that will start fifth grade in September 2024 will be the graduating class of June of 2028. We are thankful to be able to say that they will be our twenty-third graduating class…what a great accomplishment! We are blessed to be at this point but there is still much more that is needed to continue the mission of providing a quality human and Christian education in the Lasallian tradition for young men from economically challenged families here on Long Island.

This week, we began administering our midterm exams, a clear indicator that the school year has reached the half way point and the second semester is about to begin. Students are diligently studying and preparing for each subject area with the goal of achieving positive results. There is a real sense of determination and pride in the building as the young men look to successfully finish the first semester on a high note.

Last week, our eighth graders received their acceptance letters and are now beginning the decision- making process. Congratulations to the eighth-grade class for being accepted to one or more of the following schools; Chaminade, Kellenberg and Holy Trinity. The challenge now is to assist our students’ families in procuring the financial aid they need in order to enroll. Unfortunately, need based scholarships at a sufficient level are not available from all of the schools. The search for benefactors to assist in meeting high school tuition payments for our alumni is a part of our mission and the fundraising effort of The De La Salle School. We believe that when prayers go up blessings come down, so we ask that you keep them in your prayers.

As we commemorate Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 15, we remember that he understood that life is not about self. Life is about service to others. You are true examples of service to others.

Thank you for the support and encouragement that we received in 2023 and please be assured of our continued prayers for all our friends and benefactors throughout 2024.
