U.S. Playbook to Address Social Determinants of Health
The White House has released the first U.S. Playbook to Address Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Many studies have shown that members of racial and ethnic minority groups experience poorer economic, physical, and behavioral health outcomes due to SDOH. The Playbook outlines an initial set of structural steps for agencies to take to promote equitable health outcomes across communities while emphasizing the need for well-coordinated health and social care systems.

The Playbook was released alongside the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Call to Action and Medicaid and CHIP’s Framework. To encourage system transformation and collaboration, partners from the fields of health care, social services, public and environmental health, government, and health information technology organizations are urged to take both individual and collective action by responding to the Call to Action. Read the press release.

Please visit www.humantraffickinghotline.org, call 1-888-373-7888, text 233733, or TTY 711. Additional human trafficking resources are provided below.

Cervical cancer was once a leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Hispanic/Latina women and Non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native women have the highest cervical cancer rates followed by Black/African American women.

Preventative measures include getting vaccinated for human papillomavirus (HPV) early and having regular screening tests to help prevent cervical cancer. Early protection works best and that’s why the HPV vaccine is recommended earlier rather than later to help prevent certain types of cancer, including cervical cancer. Low-income, uninsured, and underinsured women can access cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services through the CDC’s National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.
