HCSO Newsletter #49 | Behavioral Threat Management
Message from Sheriff Ed Gonzalez:

This past week, we publicly announced the launch of our latest effort to stop violence before it ever happens. In the past, law enforcement has taken a reactive approach to crime, responding to calls for service after the fact. Our new Behavioral Threat Management Unit will focus on proactive strategies that can potentially prevent acts of violence by stalkers and others who exhibit behaviors that often lead to violence. Below, I sat down with Fox 26 and discussed in depth the expectations of this unit and its importance to our community.

Friday, our HCSO Junior Mounted Posse stopped by for the annual Pony Express Ride Proclamation. It’s been my honor as Sheriff to welcome these riders to Harris County as they journey through various counties to invite folks to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Started in 1951, this long-standing tradition serves as an important part of our culture here in Harris County. See the sights of their visit below.

This week, our Community Engagement Unit and District 5 patrol deputies hosted the Citizen Response to Active Shooter Training class. Public safety is always our number goal as a law enforcement agency, and reaching out to our communities through education helps us achieve this goal. This class educates the public how to prepare, prevent and react during an active shooter event.

Thank you to all of my teammates for another week of you hard work and commitment to the communities we serve. God bless you, and God bless the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

"Along with arresting the suspect, deputies took just over $100 in cash and what appeared to be a BB gun as evidence. "This guy won't be celebrating #TacoTuesday," HCSO Major Mike Lee wrote in a tweet."
