Behavioral health treatment by PCPs
We want to make you aware of an update to our Provider Manual regarding Behavioral Health Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety, Depression and/or Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).  This change was made to align with the AHCCCS Medical Policy Manual, Chapter 310-V, Prescription Medications/Pharmacy Services regarding the treatment and prescribing of medications for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety, Depression (including post-partum depression) and/or Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).

Mercy Care shall provide coverage for medically necessary, cost-effective, and federally and state reimbursable behavioral health medications when prescribed by a PCP when used to treat anxiety, depression (including postpartum depression), ADHD and/or OUD. This includes the monitoring and adjustment of behavioral health medications. PCPs may prescribe behavioral health medications to treat the above indicated behavioral health disorders for Acute and DD members. Please refer to the Mercy Care Preferred Drug list for medications on our formulary.

As always, don't hesitate to contact your Mercy Care  or your Mercy Maricopa Provider Relations Representative with any questions or comments. You can find this notice and all other provider notices on our Mercy Care Plan or Mercy Maricopa website.

Thanks for all you do!
