A message from board member, Kimberly Marie...

How can I explain what it means to me to be a part the Pineapple Playhouse Community Theatre!? After being on the board for a little over 2 years I can say I am so proud of our theater, our volunteers, our members, and our patrons! The current season has broken all-time records for ticket sales and high attendance. Thank you to all of you: the crews, the casts, all of our members and patrons!!!

We are currently rehearsing the shows for our upcoming 2nd Annual One Act Play Festival (details below). The festival is free to attend with vendor & craft booths, food & dessert trucks, music, karaoke, open mic and not to mention, beer & wine. Short plays will take the stage at the top of every hour starting at noon. Tickets to see all 4 plays are $25 each. It's what we like to call "a party on the outside and entertainment on the inside". If you want to get involved, please feel free to reach out to me. We have openings for volunteers and also have one more opening for an actor for one of our play finalists, "The Strand That Beads You", representing a light and whimsical "bead's" point of view into the LGBTQ+ community. The festival has been created to give writers a platform for their writings.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as Community Outreach Chair and Volunteer/Member Chair. These last 2 years have been wonderful and full of a lot of hard work that has been worth every ounce of energy put into it! I look forward to many more years of outreach and success for our little community theater that we all love so dearly!

In Memoriam of

Joann Carlton Humphries

May 13, 1952 — January 19, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Joann, an original member of our beloved theater community, who recently passed away.

Joann was not just a performer; she was a trailblazer, a visionary, and an integral part of the foundation upon which our theater stands today.

A message from the director of

'Crimes of the Heart'...

I was interested in getting involved in theater again after moving to Fort Pierce in October 2021 and was fortunate to land a part in 'Waiting for Godot' in Stuart. Since Stuart was too long a commute, I found my way to Pineapple Playhouse which happened to be looking for a director for Beth Henley’s 1981 Pulitzer Prize winner Crimes of the Heart. I jumped at the opportunity and joined the board of directors. I studied the script, held auditions, and was lucky to cast a wonderful group of actors. The three lead roles of the Magrath sisters are all being done by actors making their debut on the Pineapple stage. I have no doubt that after they wow audiences in this production they’ll be gracing the stage in future shows here.

Director Spotlight

Jack Krantz has been associated with the Pineapple Playhouse for over 13 years. He first got involved when he was cast as Dr. Einstein In 'Arsenic and Old Lace' and as he says he found his second home. He has appeared on stage in a number of productions but made his directorial debut with the play 'King of the Moon' by Tom Dutzik. “I just felt an attachment to the characters and the story, being set in my home town of Buffalo N.Y. I felt that I could bring some insight to the story.”

Jack tells us he enjoys being onstage and creating characters for the audience’s entertainment but directing offers him something more. “There is the collaboration with the actors that is exciting as well as the ability to shape the story as I see it in my own mind. To have a vision and see it come to life is exhilarating.” He also tells us he likes to choose shows that have an impact on the audience like his latest endeavor 'Alabama Story'. Based on a true story about book banning and prejudice he felt it was simply a story that had to be told and felt blessed being chosen to tell it. Look for his latest production of 'The Mountaintop' coming in June of this year.

Upcoming Shows

Crimes of the Heart

Written by Beth Henley

& directed by Michael Pisacane

February 23-March 10

"Crimes of the Heart" is a richly textured, Pulitzer Prize-winning play that beautifully blends comedy and tragedy. It centers around the three Magrath sisters, reuniting in their Mississippi hometown: Lenny, the eldest, shouldering her loneliness and the responsibility of holding the family together; Meg, the middle sister, returning home with a failed singing career and a fragile emotional state; and Babe, the youngest, who’s facing serious legal trouble after a shocking domestic incident. As they confront past resentments, manage present trials, and grapple with an uncertain future, their quirky, flawed, yet immensely relatable characters shine through. Imbued with Southern charm and sharp humor, "Crimes of the Heart" explores the themes of resilience, forgiveness, and the deep bonds of sisterhood, rendering an evocative portrayal of love, loss, and laughter.

Exit Laughing

Written by

Paul Elliot

& directed by Josef Long

April 12-28

When the biggest highlight in your life for the past 30 years has been your weekly bridge night out with the "girls," what do you do when one of your foursomes inconveniently dies? If you're Connie, Leona and Millie, three southern ladies from Birmingham, you do the most daring thing you've ever done. You "borrow" the ashes from the funeral home for one last card game, and the wildest, most exciting night of your lives involves a police raid, a stripper and a whole new way of looking at all the fun you can have when you're truly living.
