“My father grew up in the South Bronx in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood. His parents owned and managed a bagel shop in the neighborhood,” recalls Sara Goldsmith Schwartz of her late father, Philip Goldsmith. “He attended Bronx Science High School and then enlisted in the Army. While serving in Korea, my dad applied to college and received a full scholarship to Cornell, which is where he met my mother. He graduated from Cornell in three years and received another full scholarship to attend Harvard Medical School. The Dover Quartet virtual concert moves to 2021

With Rockport Music’s Concert View virtual music series rumbling on throughout the fall and into winter, we thought we would feature one concert in particular, the Dover Quartet which was originally scheduled for November 20th and is now scheduled for January 29 (in its place Rockport Music will share Boston-area favorite Tim Gearan). The Dover, who RCMF Artistic Director Barry Shiffman calls “the hottest quartet on the scene today” and who has won both the Banff Competition and the Cleveland Quartet Award, will perform Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 8 and Brahms’ Quartet in C Minor...
