If you’ve ever walked into the church on a Sunday morning and noticed the beauty of the altar, you’ve already experienced the work of the Flower Guild. Each week, a dedicated group serves behind the scenes to prepare arrangements that reflect the season and enrich our worship.
What They Do
The Flower Guild’s work begins well before the first hymn is sung. Members plan and arrange flowers with care and intention, making sure each display complements the liturgical season and setting.
-
Planning & Coordination
Guild members coordinate the weekly flower schedule, working with those who wish to make a flower memorial or thanksgiving offering.
-
Arranging the Flowers
Using their creativity and a sense of reverence, they design and place arrangements on the altar. At times, flowers may also be placed at the baptismal font statue if specifically requested.
-
Extending the Ministry
After the service, the ministry continues. A Flower Delivery Team carefully rearranges the altar flowers into smaller vases and delivers them to parishioners and others in our community—sharing the beauty of Sunday worship with those who may need it most.
Why It Matters for Worship
Flowers are more than decoration—they are an offering to God. Through color, texture, and seasonal beauty, they help set the tone for worship and draw our attention to the sacredness of the altar.
They reflect the rhythm of the Church year—joyful and abundant in seasons like Easter, simple and restrained in times like Lent. In doing so, they quietly support the prayers, music, and scripture, helping all of us enter more fully into worship.
They also carry deep personal meaning. The weekly bulletin includes the dedication:
“The flowers that adorn the Altar are given to the glory of God and…” followed by either “in loving memory of” or “in thanksgiving for.” These offerings connect our individual stories with the shared life of the church.
