Welcome to Behind the Scenes, a new monthly glimpse into the life and ministry of our parish beyond Sunday worship. Each edition will highlight the faithful work, quiet dedication, and shared service that help our church live out its mission throughout the week. From ministries you may know well to those happening more quietly in the background, we invite you to see and celebrate the many hands and hearts at work in our community.

Behind the Scenes: The Livestream Team

If you’ve ever watched our Sunday service online, you’ve experienced the work of the Livestream Team. Each week, a small group of service participants works behind the scenes to make sure worship can be shared beyond the walls of the church.

What They Do

The livestream runs through a small production room in Pendleton Hall where a 2–3 person team manages three different stations:

1. Video Director

One person oversees the live video feed, switching between five different cameras placed around the church. They make sure the right person is on screen at the right moment—centering the celebrant or preacher, focusing on the altar during the Eucharist, or capturing the congregation during hymns and prayers.

2. Liturgy & Text Operator

Another person follows along with the service using pre-formatted slides of the liturgy. At the appropriate moments, they click through the slides so that viewers at home can follow along with their Book of Common Prayer and the hymns.

3. Audio Operator

Using an iPad-based mixer, a third person manages the livestream sound. They monitor volume levels, mute and unmute microphones when needed, and make sure everything can be heard clearly without being too loud.

Together, they help the service flow smoothly for everyone watching online.

Why It Matters for Worship

The livestream ministry helps extend our worship beyond Sunday morning in the sanctuary.

It allows homebound parishioners to stay connected with the life of the church. It welcomes prospective visitors who may be exploring before attending in person. And it makes it possible for family, friends, and members of the wider community to join us in prayer even when they cannot physically be present.

In a very real sense, the livestream helps expand the reach of our shared worship and keeps our community connected.

How You Can Help or Join

The livestream team is always open to new participants.

If you’re curious, the first step is simple: come observe. You’re welcome to sit in the livestream room in Pendleton Hall during the 10:15 AM Sunday service and see how everything works together. Training is provided by the current team, and no prior technical experience is required.
