What Can Flagstaff Families Afford?


We published our 2026 Affordable Housing Needs Assessment—an analysis of nearly 15 years of housing trends in Flagstaff.

The report examines how Flagstaff's rental and home purchase markets have changed over time, including how many households are currently housing cost burdened, what different household sizes and occupations can realistically afford to rent or buy, and how our local housing costs and overall cost of living compare to national averages. The findings are striking.

We invite you to explore the data, better understand the challenges facing our region, and join the conversation about creating housing solutions for northern Arizona.

JoJo's Place

Last month, JoJo’s Place welcomed a new household into a furnished studio, providing a safe place to call home and an important step toward stability.

We also honored the life of an elderly resident who passed away, grateful that she had a home where she could spend her final days with dignity.

In July, residents, staff, and community partners also came together for a festive Fourth of July gathering, while the onsite pantry provided food assistance to 20 households weekly on average throughout the month.

Sharon Manor

Last month, two households experiencing homelessness and surviving domestic violence began a new chapter at Sharon Manor, moving into safe, supportive transitional housing with access to case management and child and adult groups.

The Sharon Manor team also hosted a special Back-to-School Backpack Party for our families! Thanks to generous community support, every child received a backpack filled with school supplies and is ready to start the new school year with confidence. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this annual tradition possible!

Flagstaff Rentals

A safe, affordable home can provide the stability families need to build their futures. Last month, 26 Flagstaff households—including 36 adults and 13 children—called one of Housing Solutions’ permanently affordable rental homes their home, providing them with housing stability and security.

Oak Wash Homes

At Oak Wash Homes, 30 households who previously experienced homelessness now have an affordable place to call home in Cottonwood. With stable housing as a foundation, residents can focus on building greater independence, pursuing opportunities, and moving forward with their goals.

Western Hills Apartments

Only 6 rentals remain available at Western Hills Apartments! These 29 new workforce-attainable rentals are helping make it possible for Flagstaff’s teachers, healthcare workers, service workers, tradespeople, and other local workers to live in the community they help keep thriving. First Time Homebuyers

Five northern Arizona households became first-time homeowners in July! With down payment assistance through Housing Solutions’ Pre-Purchase Assistance Program, four families purchased homes in Flagstaff and one in Cottonwood. We’re especially proud that two of the new homeowners are Housing Solutions employees who used our Employer Assisted Housing Program, launched in 2021.

Thank you, Chicanos Por La Causa! We’re incredibly grateful to CPLC for helping make our annual Back-to-School Backpack Party special for our Sharon Manor families. Thanks to their generosity, every child received a backpack filled with school supplies and is heading back to school ready for a new year of learning and growth. Their support helps set our youngest residents up for success, and we’re so thankful for their partnership!
