Official Opening Night of BFW17
Presented by Platform Downtown & Downtown Boston BID

Every year since 1995, Boston Fashion Week has found ways to seek out and celebrate new fashion talent. This year is no exception! The plan was to find 17 new faces that should be on every fashionable Bostonian's radar. BFW found 18! Hence the revised name of the official opening night event, 17+.  The evening begins with the screening of a documentary short featuring designer interviews, behind the scenes glimpses, and the glamorous editorial images photographed by Tracy Aiguier, styled by Terri Mahn and shot on locations in Downtown Crossing. Guests will mix and mingle with designers and models wearing selections from their collections.  Among the 17+ are SFD alumni Nasrin Bigonahy, Meghan Doyle Wilkinson, and Sydney Siagel.

Fashion Technology Accelerator names Oola Sports "Startup of the Month."

Oola Sports' insight came out of a real necessity: friends Haya Al Ghanim and Amina Ahmadi bonded while training for a Mount Kilimanjaro hike over the difficulties they both had finding sports hijabs and performance garments that met their hiking needs, while being aligned with their values. The women went home to Qatar, remaining resolute about being able to provide Muslim women with a new experience in sports and fitness. They partnered up with friend and fashion designer,  Lilian Gabriel de Almeida Barbosa (SFD alum, Class of 2014) and founded Oola Sports - producing womens wear that performs and comes in modest styles, without compromising on either.  Read more.
