Registration for Spring 2022 is Still Open!

  • Determine your date to register - Check the Enrollment Dates box in your LionPATH Student Center - click here to view the registration timetable.
  • Complete your Spring 2022 Pre-registration Activity Guide found in your LionPATH To Do List.
  • Complete your Spring 2022 Major Preferences Activity Guide (only required for pre-major students) found in your LionPATH To Do List.
  • Resolve any other registration holds such as bursar, academic warning, or health-related holds.
  • Consult with your academic adviser regarding degree planning and your academic requirements (degree audit).
  • Enforced pre-requisite checking is occurring in science, business, and several other subjects. If you are denied registration for a Behrend course due to a missing pre-requisite, you can follow our pre-requisite override approval process.

WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?

Communications is an academic discipline that deals with the creation and distribution of mass communication messages through media such as books, newspapers, television, radio, film, video games, and the Internet. Mass communications use writing, speech, photographs, video, and interactive content to give information or influence the audience. Communications also concerns the study of how we communicate in different ways with diverse audiences through marketing, advertising, public relations, corporate communications, digital journalism, film and other media.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS MAJOR?

Recent graduates of Penn State Behrend’s Communication program are employed by such companies as: Verizon, Erie Insurance, Proctor and Gamble, GE, Zurn Industries, J.M. Smucker, PNC Bank, UPMC, Bensur Advertising, Tungsten Creative, Corry Publishing, Erie Times-News, WSEETV, WJET/Fox 66, and the Erie Zoo. Communication graduates have become development directors, public relations directors, account executives, marketing managers, teachers, broadcasters, writers, journalists, pastors, coaches, and sports information directors, as well as serving in a wide variety of corporate and professional fields.

The Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) is the academic home for students exploring multiple academic programs before committing to a course of study. Academic advisers in DUS teach students how to:
