"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.'
Galatians 5:22, 23
"What does this situation need?", I asked the Lord. I realize the Holy Spirit is living within me representing the Godhead, and the "fruit of the Spirit" is His Character. When I need to pull from those characteristics, I am simply pulling from Him and who He is! If I feel intimidated or fearful, I need His love, for perfect Love cast out fear! If there is strife, I want to pull on His peace and not get caught up in the drama of the circumstance. Not only do I want to partake of the "fruit" for myself, but I want to release it into the situation without judgment and criticism. I want to feel the compassion of the Lord for the individual and move in His wisdom for what's needed for me and for them. Greater is He that is within us! So, let's quit fighting the darkness but instead release the Light!
The Lord is so good at showing us creative ways to release His character. One time I was in a grocery store where a mother of two little ones was at her wit's end. One little girl was running around and the other was trying to climb out of the shopping cart while Mom was rounding up her sister. I started speaking into the atmosphere what was needed. "Are you her big sister?" "I bet you are your Mommy's helper aren't you!" What good girls you both are! And what a good Mommy you have!" "Can you tell I'm a grandma, and I'm missing my grandkids?" (All the time with a loving voice that calmed the situation.) I helped pick up the littlest one's shoes she had pulled off and entertained "big Sister" while Mom put the shoes back on her. The girls settled down and so did frazzled Mommy. I talked to the Mom a few minutes encouraging her. She thanked me before they left for understanding and for helping her with her kids. I think I pulled on all the fruit for that one! And this little family tasted it and it satisfied their needs!
I have learned also I can ask what fruit is needed before I am already in the midst of the situation as I pray over the day and look at the events that are on my agenda. Listen to the Lord as you look over the things you plan to do and people you plan to see. If you find yourself reacting inside, stop and identify it. Ask the Lord why you feel that way. Maybe reluctant to go or that you feel unwelcome? Are you feeling overwhelmed with so much on your plate? Most importantly, align with His assignments for your day. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light! (Matt 11:28) If it's feeling pressing and heavy, maybe you have added things that are not from Him. Or you need to increase your time with Him to see "How He wants you to do it!" Pull on His wisdom and the fruit that is needed! It's within you because He is within you!
We can be full of His fruit and not act like a fruitcake! He wants to live His life through us so that this world can come to know how wonderful He is!
