Being Open to Change
When he was at the table with them, he took bread,
blessed and broke it and gave it to them.
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him…
That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem,
and they found the eleven and their companions saying,
“The Lord has risen indeed.” -- Luke 24: 30-34
Jesus' incognito appearance on the road to Emmaus is one of the most heart-warming accounts in all the gospels. His followers were confused and frightened by all the events surrounding his arrest and crucifixion. They were even more confounded with reports of an empty tomb and resurrection appearances.
Many of us are walking that road with our own fears and confusion. Changes are taking place in our country and our world that are often beyond our capacity to fathom. Yet, those changes bring something else–new understandings of ourselves, of others, and of our world. Historian David McCulloch once wrote, “When history teaches, it teaches mainly by example. It inspires courage and tolerance. It encourages a sense of humor. It is an aid to navigation in perilous times…But history shows that the times of change are the times when we are most likely to learn.” (from “History Matters”).
McCurdy Ministries has seen its share of changes in the last few years. Some of those changes have confronted us as a big, “No, that’s not gonna happen!” But other changes come as subtly as did Jesus on that deserted road, saying “Yes, this is what I need you to do. This is My vision, the work to which you are being called.”
Recently I was invited to speak about McCurdy at a church about an hour from my home. I wrote down what I wanted to say, knowing if I didn’t, I would take much longer than my allotted time. I want to tell people what is taking place and encourage them to pray for McCurdy, give their support, or come as part of a work team.
Come, see what God is doing!

Special Note: In a couple of months, our Development Team will be training people as Ambassadors to share about McCurdy. If you would like someone to come to your church or, better yet, if you would like to be an Ambassador for McCurdy, please get in touch.
