28 May 2021

Peace and Greetings to you!

We’re already at the end of month an even harder to absorb that we are five months into 2021. It’s even more mind blowing that we’ve been living in a virtual world for the last fifteen months. But at the same time, it’s exciting to see that things are starting to come back to some normalcy, and that most of us have started developing yet another new normal into their lives.
As I mentioned last week that we’re approximately 440 days (15 months) since we first learned of this pandemic known as COVID 19. But when you look over these last fifteen months in retrospect of that “we” as a church has gone through, we’ve taken some major leaps and bounds in our faith journey as individuals, but also as a community of faith.
Back in March of 2020, when the church was vandalized and damaged, it gave us the opportunity at looking at many different ways in rebuilding who we are, as this community of faith. It’s been an adventure to say the least, but it’s also been a blessing in looking at our past and how we vision looking at the future.
This year Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church will celebrate fifty years of bring a vibrant, inclusive, progressive community of faith, serving the Greater Milwaukee area. From our first location of worship in 1971, at 2024 West Highland Avenue, to various other venues, including the Aster Hotel, to where we are now at 1239 West Mineral Street.
As your pastor, along with the board, we are excited that we will be able to have our Annual Anniversary Fundraising Gala in November, which will include hosting the North Central MCC US Network Gathering. This will be a time as well to look at the past but look at what our possibilities are in the next fifty years. I invited you to watch for details in the neat future for some of the activities and events we will be coordinating, which will lead up to our Fundraising Gala in November.
I am happy to share that we will RESUME IN-PERSON WORSHIP ON SUNDAY, JUNE 20, 2020 (Father’s Day). While we are still formatting our internal protocols for returning to in-person worship, we are excited that we are finally able to welcome you back into our building. We are excited that you will be coming back to a completely renovated and remodeled building. Please watch your mail, emails, and all the other forms of social media communication, in the days and weeks ahead, for the exact details on how we are returning to be with one another in-person.
As we gather this Sunday, we conclude our sermon series titled: “Traveling the Road from Easter to Pentecost!” We have arrived at the end of our journey to Pentecost with us celebrating the Trinity this Sunday.
I Invite you to join me this Sunday, for Worship ONLINE, starting at 11:00AM Central Time, either on our YouTube or Facebookwhere we will conclude our series in understanding how "Being Three in One!" becomes an important part of our Christian lives.
I also invite you to continue to join us as we begin our “PRIDE” Sermon Series, starting next week, leading us into our July series, as we proclaim, “I Am Proud of ‘MY’ Church!”

Blessing to you!
Rev. Tory

Scripture: John 3:1–17 (The Inclusive Bible)

A certain Pharisee named Nicodemus, a member of the Sanhedrin, came to Jesus at night. “Rabbi,” he said, “we know you’re a teacher who has come from God, for
no one can perform the signs and wonders you do, unless by the power of God.” Jesus gave Nicodemus the answer. “The truth of the matter is, unless one is born from
above, one cannot see the dominion of God.” Nicodemus said, “How can an adult be born a second time? I can’t go back into my mother’s womb to be born again!” Jesus replied: “The truth of the matter is, no one can enter God’s dominion without being born of water and the Spirit. What is born of the flesh is flesh; what is born of the
Spirit is Spirit. So don’t be surprised when I tell you that you must be born from above. The wind blows where it will. You hear the sound it makes, but you don’t know where
it comes from or where it goes. So, it is with everyone who is in the Spirit.” How can this be possible?” asked Nicodemus. Jesus replied. “You’re the teacher of Israel, and you still don’t understand these matters? “The truth of the matter is, we’re talking about what we know; we’re testifying about what we’ve seen – yet you don’t accept
our testimony. If you don’t believe when I tell you about earthly things, how will you believe when I tell you about heavenly things? No one had gone up to heaven except
the One who came down from heaven – the Chosen One. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so the Chosen One must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes
in the Chosen One might have eternal life. Yes, God so loved the world as to give the Only Begotten One, that whoever believes may not die, but have eternal life.
God sent the Only Begotten into the world not to condemn the world, but
that through the Only Begotten the world might be saved.

Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church is excited and happy to announce our 2021 Capital Fundraising Campaign which we have name: “I am Proud of “MY” Church!”

Our Capital Fund, which is really a fancy name for our building fund, of which we are raising funds for several needed repairs to the church building. While we are celebrating 50 Years in Ministry, our building is over 100 years old.

For those of you who are members, or worship with us on a regular basis, have heard mention of the water problems in the basement whenever it rains. And although we love all God’s creatures, we would prefer to keep the skunks, possums, and squirrels on the outside and from making a home inside the building. The money that we raise will be used for roofing repair, replacement of the gutters, along with some foundation work in need of repair.

We have so much to be “proud” of at Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church. And this year we celebrate 50 Years of Ministry, in the Greater Milwaukee area, telling the story of God’s love for ALL people. This is truly something to be proud of, and as a vibrant, inclusive, and progressive community of faith, we have so much more to offer.

Over the last fourteen months, when we could not worship in person, while never missing a beat, the board extends our heartfelt appreciation to Rev. Tory and our Worship Team, in what they have been doing, by feeding our souls and spirits each week, providing us with an online worship experience. In addition to this online experience, we started a virtual monthly coffee hour to keep us all connected.

By having to switch over to virtual connections over this duration, we have been able to keep our programs and ministries going, keeping them alive and strong. We can be proud of our Congregational Care Team for all the calls they have made, checking-in with each of us, making sure we were all doing good.

Theology-on-Tap and the POZ Spirit ministries, also went virtual, welcoming new people from around the block to around the United States and even Canada together. Our Prison Ministry also continues its strong outreach. Amazingly, we can accomplish all these things, first by the grace of God and second by the support of each of you. This is truly something to be proud of!

NOW it is time to take pride in our church building. We want to stand proud in our neighborhood by being a clean and well-maintained property. We want to be proud when receiving visitors into our church building. We give thanks to our God for even being able to own a building and take pride in keeping it well maintained.

We all know Wisconsin has only a few months to get outside repairs done. The “I Am Proud of ‘MY’ Church!” fundraising campaign is happening now and will continue through the month of July 2021.

Your support and contributions will allow us to have repairs done before winter. You can make your contribution by sending a check in the mail to the church address, clicking on the “I Am Proud of ‘MY’ Church!" Icon below that will take you to our web page, or even dropping your contribution off at the church and slipping it in the mail slot. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

Please join us in supporting this important fundraising campaign, and say with us:

We thank you with Prayers and Blessings,
The Board of Directors of Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church
