A MESSAGE FROM JOE ROBINSON+

On Sunday I announced changes in the way in which we will deliver and receive consecrated host during our Sunday Worship Services.

The following scripture and prayers will be read by a CHS Eucharistic Visitor at the appropriate time during the service.

If you do not have consecrated communion wafers, please continue to join us in the Prayer for Spiritual Communion at the designated time in the service.

Jesus said, “Abide in me, as I in you.

As the branch cannot bear

fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine,

neither can you, unless you abide in me.

I am the vine, you are the branches.

By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit,

and so prove to be my disciples.

As the Father loved me, so have I loved you;

abide in my love.” (John 15:4-5a, 8-9)

Almighty Father, whose dear Son, on the night before he suffered, instituted the Sacrament of his Body and Blood: Mercifully grant that we may receive it thankfully in remembrance of Jesus Christ our Lord, who in these holy mysteries gives us a pledge of eternal life; and who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen

Let us pray in the words our Savoir Christ taught us.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

Holy Jesus, Redeemer of the World, We believe that you are present in the Blessed Sacrament of this altar. Even while we are unable to receive you in the elements of bread and wine, we invite you to enter our hearts and be our companion along the way. As we receive you in spirit, we long to know your presence in the community of believers once again. Awaiting in hope, we rest in the faith that you are present in every moment of our lives and will never leave us comfortless. For all good things come from you O lord, and from that goodness, lead us to the love to others. For you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit now and forever. Amen.

ALTAR FLOWER GUILD

ALTAR FLOWER GUILD VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Each week, the flower arrangements for the Sunday Worship Service are created by the dedicated Altar Flower Guild. Each member signs up for several weekends a year. If you would like to join us, please contact Marty Williams. You will be partnered with a current member for a while until your are ready to "go solo."

We also welcome donations to cover the cost of the flowers. Donations can be made online through the CHS website or by check payable to CHS and noted "Flowers." Also please indicate if your donation is in memory of someone and/or for a specific week.

WE ALSO NEED SMALL FLOWER VASES - each week, we make small arrangements from the Sunday altar flowers and take them to parishioners who would appreciate a "thinking of you pick-me-up bouquet." If you have any vases to donate, put them at the sink counter near the CHS sacristy. Or, contact Priscilla Isner and she will pick them up.

The altar flowers for Sunday April 25th are giving in memory of Robert D. Affleck.

COME TO A GARDEN PARTY...PLEASE!!!

Last year we moved a little Hinoki pine near the hill by the rectory. It has survived the winter and is growing (see pine in back ground of photo to the right) .... as are all of the spring bulbs dug up and replanted last fall by members of the Garden Party team.

The biggest "Garden Party" news is the "grass project" is moving forward in about a month. This will clean up the North transept area along with the parish hall hill. Instead of the current plantings that require a lot of weeding, cleaning and maintenance, we will be converting the hill into lawn.

In preparation for this project, we need to locate as many bulbs, plants, etc. that may be taken out and move them to new locations around the campus. PLEASE HELP US WITH THIS TASK!

We are also working on a planting scheme for the memorial garden, but that's a work in progress.

PLEASE - Come Join Our Garden Parties - We know most of us have our own gardens to tend to.. but we really can use a few hours of your time

tending to our parish campus gardens. Every helping hand is important.

If you are interested in helping out even a couple of hours here and there, call or send Ann Pike-Paris an email and she will include you on her team updates, work day schedules and task lists.

Sometimes our best planning for scheduled workdays are spoiled by Mother Nature. However, please mark your calendar for the scheduled Garden Parties listed below.

We reported the Garden Party Team discovered a number of "memorial stones" buried under accumulated garden debris in area in the front of the church. We assume they are for members who passed away a long time ago. Susan Owens shared that her father in law's ashes are buried there, Louis C. Owens, along with some other family members. We will continue our research, but if any one has any other information about these memorial stones, please let Ann Pike-Paris know.

SUNDAY BOOK GROUP

Our current book is The God We Never Knew by Marcus Borg.

Books are available through your local bookstore, Amazon and on Kindle. We meet on Sundays via Zoom from 12:30 - 1:30 pm. ALL ARE WELCOME! If you wish to join us, please notify Brian or Brooke Skea.

A friend sent me an email with about 30 wonderful pictures with the topic line "When a picture tells a story of more than a 1,000 words." I selected four to share here. I included my own captions so you can come up with your own "stories" about these.

Her email also closed with a great story whose moral was to realize when someone forwards you an email with pictures or some jokes, don't think of it as "junk mail" but as an act of friendship....your friend was letting you know they were thinking about you and wanted to share something that might make you smile today. I hope these pictures made you smile today. Sue

A SHORT BOOK STUDY

Ken Campbell+ will be leading an online zoom 3-session book study of the just published “3 Ground Breaking Jewish Feminists Pursuing Social Justice” by Dr. Sharon Leder, a member of Am HaYam Cape Cod Havurah. Dr. Leder has offered to participate in the discussions.

The study will take place on Sundays from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on

May 9, 16 and 23.

The group will be limited to a maximum of 15 participants. If interested in participating, please contact Ken+.

LOOKING AHEAD TO SUMMER

Food4Kids has been very busy preparing for the summer ahead. While our loyal management staff of Anne Marie, Mary, and Gerard are all returning, we will be needing several paid site supervisors.

Site Supervisors must have a driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities include transporting prepared meals to a local recreation program, distributing those meals to the children, and completing the required paperwork.

Hours would be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each weekday, but additional hours prepping and packing the meals may be available.

Wages are $15/hour plus mileage.

If you know of anyone who might be interested, please have him or her contact F4K at info@food4kidscapecod.org.

CENTERING PRAYER: Until CHS can resume hosting, the Monday and Thursday Centering Prayer gatherings will be held at 4:30 at the Orleans Federated Church. Wearing a mask, ring the bell and enter through the door on the East side of the building. Sign in, and look for us at the end of the hall to your right. Sometimes we meet in the Sanctuary upstairs.

WEDNESDAY MORNING PRAYER GROUP: The CHS Morning Prayer Group prays on Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m. from the comfort of their own homes. Contact Richard O'Hara and he will send you the coming month's scripture readings for Wednesdays. His email and phone numbers are in the Parish Directory.
