Being Together - Apart

As we approach the final days of Lent, we are sharing the schedule of services planned for Holy Week and Easter - March 28th - April 4th (see below) There will also be a dedicated Holy Week communication sent before Palm Sunday giving you more details about each of the services, when communion wafers will be available for pick-up, as well as other Holy Week traditions.

We pray you can join us for all or some of these special opportunities to worship during this holiest week leading to Easter.

We also want to share a few things to plan for or do before Holy Week starts:

Easter Flower Donations- We are planning an Easter Sunday altar floral display . If you would like to make a donation to this, you can do so by check or our Online Giving capability on our website. And/or you can make a special designated Easter offering.

Checks - mail to the church or drop off in the special mail box outside our parish office. Make sure to note "Easter Flowers" or "Easter Offering" on the check AND on the outside of your envelope
On-line Giving - click here to be linked to the On-line Giving section of the parish website. Under "My Donation", select a Fund - Easter" will be a general Easter donation to CHS; "Flowers" will be used for the Easter altar display.
For either payment option, if you choose to, please include the names of people in whose memory your donation is made.
Donator and Remembrance names received by Noon on Wednesday March 31st will be listed in the April 4th Easter Service Bulletin.

Palm Sunday - Blessing Palms

It seemed like too much energy to order what some clergy call, “People palms” and then to get them safely in your hands during a pandemic. So, this year we are going “Old School” which must work, because it is what Christians did for the hundreds of years before retail church markets selling palms arrived.

Please take a moment during the week before Holy Week to choose something growing and green from your yard (or a willing neighbor’s yard) to use in the observance of Palm Sunday. We will bless these, remotely, during the Palm Sunday service, and you can keep them to lay at the foot of the cross on Good Friday.

Then, reserve a sprig of what you chose for us to burn as preparation for Ash Wednesday next year.

Mite Box Donations - If you have followed the Mite Box tradition during your Lenten time, when you are ready, please send your donations by check (marked "Mite Box") or click here to do an "on-line donation.". Under "Choose a Fund" drop down box, select "Mite Box." The CHS Outreach Committee will determine where our combined donations are most needed in the community we support.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Saint Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is the Patron Saint of Ireland and its national apostle. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people.

Made an official church feast day in the 17th century, St. Patrick is celebrated on March 17th, thought to be the date of his death. In the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar, it became a holy day of obligation for Irish Catholics. Lenten restrictions of eating meat and drinking alcohol were lifted for celebrations that included feasts and parades.

Modern days continued these traditions, eating corned beef and cabbage with some green beer or Irish Whiskey and wearing green and shamrocks, the symbol of Ireland.

May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields;

And, until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand."

COME TO A GARDEN PARTY

The 1^st official 2021 CHS Garden Party

Thursday, April 1^st 9-12 noon

No – this is NOT an April Fools’ Joke!!! Are you looking to get out of the house? Do you want to see people…even from a distance? Do you miss puttering in the yard? Well, we have a solution!

If you have wanted to find a way to contribute "time" to CHS, but just don't know how or when, then come to our Garden Party, meet the team, figure out what you can do and then join us at future Garden Parties when you can. Future Garden Party dates will be announced in our parish newsletters.

What: 1^st 2021 Garden cleanup-raking leaves, picking up branches,

cutting back old or dead plants and more!

Who: Workers will work at least 6’ apart, unless with a member of your household.

When: Thursday, April 1st, 9-12noon

Where: meet in the lower parking lot in back of the church.

We will show you where to work.

Please, even if you can only help us for a little while on April 1^st, we really

need you to help us start our spring clean-up to prepare our campus

for the eventual return of parish activities.

Remember: We are still observing all Covid restrictions:

Bring your own tools: rake, shovel, clippers, a basket, tarp or plastic bag for debrided material.

Masks required when within 6 feet of others

Restrooms will be available

Bring your own coffee or water, no snacks provided yet!

NEED SOME HELP? Check this out....

The Family Pantry is hosting a Food Grab and Go on Sunday March 21st from 10:00-Noon (or until the distribution is complete).

This will be a drive through event held in the rear parking lot of the Monomoy High School at 75 Oak Street in Harwich. Everyone is welcome and participants will receive a full bag of non-perishable foods including breakfast, lunch and dinner items. In addition, they will receive a 5 lb. bag of apples and a modest gift card to Shaws Supermarket.

No documentation is required for this event!

Look for the Family Pantry truck at the entrance of Monomoy High and volunteers will direct you to the distribution area. Please remain in your car during the distribution and please wear your mask.

Only one distribution per car!

Volunteers will be on site to answer questions. The Family Pantry registration forms will be in the bag and anyone who would like to take advantage of the Pantry simply needs to fill out the registration form and bring it to the Pantry during open hours. Pantry clients are able to shop at the Family Pantry every 14 days and no documentation is required to register during the Pandemic.

NAUSET INTERFAITH ASSOCIATION

YOH (Youth Outreach and Hospitality), is co sponsoring an entertaining and educational virtual event on Saturday April 10th at 6 pm to raise awareness and money for transgender youth and young adults in need. YOH is an action team of the Nauset Interfaith Association. NIA is the fiscal sponsor of the Cape and Islands Transgender Resource Fund.

The recent CDC interim guidelines for fully vaccinated people regarding visiting, quarantining and testing are encouraging. Please continue, however, to take all precautions in public with social distancing, masking and avoiding medium and large in-person gatherings. And if experiencing COVID symptoms, get tested.

CHS OUTREACH COMMITTEE

CHAMP HOUSE CELEBRATES 30 YEARS

Through its campus in Hyannis, Champ Home has been providing shelter, food, community and a new start to more than 3000 people over the past thirty years. This has made a tremendous positive impact on our community says Executive Director, Adam Burnett. And Holy Spirit has contributed funds and support to them through our Outreach for much of this time says our contact Jan Roberts.

During Covid, Champ has enclosed its outdoor pavilion to continue to offer bible study and AA meetings to the community, safely and comfortably. They established a program for emergency housing for seven additional people between the ages of 18 – 24 that kept them out of the winter cold. Residents and staff have found employment or are in job skills training for 90% of the Champs and have seen a dramatic increase in rate of those moving on to long term sustainable housing.

CHS joins in celebrating the 30^th Anniversary of Champ Homes on their impressive contribution to our community.

UNITED PEOPLE FOR KIDS - Good Friday Walk Fundraiser

Rich Weeks

The pandemic forced us to cancel the U.P for Kids 2020 Good Friday Walk. This year, with vaccinations progressing, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and some sense of normalcy ahead. However, erring on the side of caution, we will cancel the walk again this year.

With our 2020 walk cancelation and uncertain times, our donations were down. However those who donated were more than generous and we were able to help six families with special needs kids. Check us out on Facebook to see how your donations help local families facing challenges because of their child's special needs.

I look forward to all of us gathering again for worship at Holy Spirit. With that Spirit of optimism, it is my fervent hope and prayer that you will open your hearts this year as you have so faithfully done in the past to help our neighbors who are in need now more than ever.

We cannot honor Jesus's sacrifice with our walk this year but we can honor his legacy of love and service to those in our community who need our help.

Keira and Marcus Vicente are on a 2- year teaching experience in Beijing! Keira is an art and English as a second language teacher. In late January, Ruth Campbell sent Marcus a Valentine Card package for him to write Valentine cards to some CHS members. Alas, the package finally made it to him in China on March 3rd. Keira sent a joyous message to Ruth...."The Valentine's envelope from CHS arrived today!! It was on our doorstep when we got home from school. Marcus and I wanted to call you then, but it was 4:00 in the morning in MA. Here are some pics of Marcus opening the envelop. He said, "oh no, Valentine's has passed. I will save this and send them next year 😊"

Ruth feels this is the ULTIMATE example of how we have remained "Being Together- Apart!" during this pandemic time.
