Being Together - Apart
STEWARDSHIP
In August, pledge cards for the 2021 Parish Year were mailed to your homes. To date,
86 pledges have been received, totaling $215,602. Comparing this figure to the total pledged by these people last year, we have seen an increase of 4.4%.

We still have a long way to go. In 2020 we had 131 pledges totaling over $300,000.

If you plan to make a pledge for 2021, please return your pledge card as soon as possible. We are starting to create our 2021 budget and your pledge is a critical part of that process.

If you need a pledge card, please call the parish office and one will be mailed to you.

As part of our ongoing Stewardship program, members have been asked to provide a personal reflection on the importance of CHS in their life and their stewardship in support of The Now and Future Church.

This week Priscilla Isner has shared her CHS journey with us. Priscilla joined CHS about five years ago and has been an active member and also now a member of our Vestry. Click Here to read her stewardship reflection.

The Stewardship Team thanks you for your continued support in these challenging yet creative times of ministry.

Faithfully yours on behalf of the Vestry,
 The Stewardship Team for 2021

New Fee Structure for ONLINE GIVING

Have you hesitated to make an online donation because the processing fees seemed too high? We now are able to designate a much lower processing fee ("Convenience Fee") for donations using Bank Account transfers to CHS vs. Credit/Debit Card charges on our online giving form.

While we are happy to accept your donation by any means, the processing fee charged to the church for donations from your Bank Account is significantly less than those using your Credit/Debit Cards. When donating online, you may choose to help cover the fee for processing your donation by leaving the "Convenience Fee" box checked. Should you choose to add the Convenience Fee to your donation, it will show up on your Giving Statement as a separate line and is tax deductible.

We are grateful to all who have turned to Online Giving for their donations to Holy Spirit. If you would like to make an online donation, click here or visit the Holy Spirit website and click on the green GIVE NOW button on any page.

If you have any questions, contact our Treasurer, Chris Crighton at rov1gh65 “at” gmail.com

Watch over thy children, O'Lord, as their days increase.
Bless and guide them wherever they may be
keeping them unspotted from the world.
Strengthen them when they stand;
comfort them when discouraged or sorrowful; raise them up if they fall;
And in their hearts, may thy peace, which passes all understanding,
Abide all the days of their lives;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
CAPE COD PREPAREDNESS - Cape Cod Medical Reserve Corps
Diana Gaumond, RN, BSN, MPH

September was Cape Cod Preparedness Month. This message is about building a kit of supplies that will help you to stay at home and weather storms. Click here for the full list of items to include in your kit.

This information is from the CDC and can be found, along with a lot of other good Emergency Preparation tips, at www.ready.gov.

Assembling kits now will have us ready for the first winter storm. And the way 2020 has been going, this could happen any day now. In the meantime, enjoy a happy, healthy, and crisp autumn!  Stay well.

Who knows who Dick was and the history of his garden?
Send your response to Sue Sasso at newsletters@chsorleans.org
The answer will be reported in the next edition.

OTHER KAMPUS KAPERS
Our Building and Grounds Committee has been very busy overseeing many important CHS projects.
THE SOLAR PANEL project on the North Hill
We are making progress:
  • Town of Orleans permit has been approved.
  • Eversource engineering has started and will take 2 weeks to get their certificate.
  • After receiving the Eversource certificate, it will take two weeks to schedule the solar contractor, My Generation, to begin the installation slated for November.
And the trees came down.
All clear!

REMINDER FROM THE BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE
Please do not tack or tape anything on the church doors or surrounding trim!
If you have something that needs to be placed on or near one of the doors, you must first get approval from Gail Smith+ and then, Wayne Currey will place it in an appropriate manner. Thank you for your cooperation and respect of our buildings.
SOME INSPIRATION
I find many inspirational items in Maria Shriver's Sunday Paper blog. I think these she posted the Sunday after Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away were particularly good. Sue

I don’t know how the universe will use you, but I do know that asking is a good first step. Surrendering to the answer is key.
I know believing you have something to offer is a universal truth.
I know each of us is needed right now.
I know each of us has a role to play in making things better.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought to make life equitable, just, and fair
until her dying day.
She was 87 and still suiting up every day.
She always had something to give and to say, and she never stopped trying.
She used her voice every single day on behalf of what she believed to be right.

So on this Sunday morning, ask yourself how you can be used right now.
This is not a time for despair. This is not a time to bow out or go quiet.
This is a seminal moment for each of us to dig in and dig deep.

If nothing comes up when you ask yourself how you can be of service,
keep digging.
Let me know what comes up, and be prepared for what comes next.
I’ll bet the answer won’t be to go back to bed.

Think about it!
SOME FUN THINGS
September 22, 2020 - Strong winds and extreme high tides made for a very angry and strong surf that threatened Nauset Beach and dunes.
September 24, 2020 - A Nauset Beach walk with Suzy Gray. What a difference two days made! The ocean was calm and the low tide revealed a wonderful beach and some amazing treasures washed up on the shore.

September 24th - Close-up shot of the sand dollar we found. It looks like a lace collar RBG might have worn!
THE POWER OF PRAYER
On our Nauset Beach walk, Suzy and I met Ken Campbell. He introduced us to his walking buddy... "This is my good friend Milt Barnes." I said, "Oh Milt! We pray for you every Sunday!" He said, 'Well just keep on praying for me. It sure has made a difference!"

Milt has recovered from severe life threatening cancer and now is fit and strong and walking the beach with his close friend Ken.

Lesson Learned?

Never doubt the power of prayer!
Prayer Shawls Do Help!
This is a photo of my brother, John, wrapped in the gray prayer shawl I picked up from church recently. He is waiting for dialysis to begin. He likes the prayer shawl and says it keeps him warm, since he is cold all the time. Thank you to the person who made the lovely shawl and prayed over every stitch. The fringe is nice and very soft. Sandy Marshall said that this is the first photo of a prayer shawl recipient.

Same Vermont view but of peak foliage this Fall. That's Mount Hunger in the distance, on the Waterbury/Stowe, VT line.
Murray Goff was a musical entertainer in the Jacksonville, FL area. Murray passed away on October 3, 2020. He had a great following in the N. Florida area. He recently recorded "God Save the U.S.A.", a song he wrote, that is a wonderful inspiration for all of us.

O.K. this a silly story sent to me by Barbara Sousa and I thought you would enjoy a chuckle or two.

A Girl Potato and Boy Potato had eyes for each other, and finally they got married, and had a little sweet potato, which they called 'Yam'.
