First Universalist's weekly newsletter
We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.  - Dakota Proverb
We are called to act now to create a better future. One way we do this at First U is through our strong support and commitment to implementation of OWL, the UU/UCC Our Whole Lives program. OWL gives youth the tools they need to stay safe, model consent and inclusivity to others, and lead their peers as confident young adults – in a word, to persevere. Your annual campaign commitment is an investment in the core health and self-confidence of young UUs!
FACT:  Our amazing OWL program has reached 35 non-UU's this year so far through our outreach efforts. Over the past 19 years we've taught this healthy view on personal health, sexuality and relationships to 50 of our own junior and senior youth.

Yarmouth Community Housing Initiative, a joint effort by local faith organizations including First Universalist, who supports New Mainers, refugees and asylum-seekers in Maine, want you to share in the celebration and birth of a new baby!

YCHI's carefully crafted plans to support a pregnant mom, who was to be induced this past Tuesday, changed suddenly when she was admitted to Maine Medical last Friday instead!

Fortunately, one of our volunteers came through like a champ and took in the pregnant mom's two-year-old while mom gave birth to a healthy baby Saturday evening. This mom was supported throughout the delivery by a doula and we think this was a big part of why the delivery went so well. We will continue to connect expecting moms with doulas through BirthRoots or the doula organization itself as moms express interest.

Mom and her two-year-old and baby were back at the shelter Monday afternoon. We supported the volunteer watching the two-year-old with food purchases and at Wednesday's new mom gathering, the volunteer was told that the two-year-old had gained weight over the weekend while in the volunteer's care!

At First Universalist, we enthusiastically support the work of YCHI with direct participation and partnership. If you would like to join the team that both hosts and plans, please contact Anne Turner ( ) or Rev. Jennifer ( ). We are looking for a partner in this fun and life-giving justice work!
The Theater Project is putting on a production of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray which will run from February 8th - 18th. Click for tickets and showtimes (link has been corrected!).
