There is a lot of excitement going on in the month of May as we celebrate mothers, graduating seniors and the end of school.

Another exciting event is our 6th Grade Confirmation service. On this day, our 6th graders, fondly known as Super Sixers, will make a Profession of Faith and become the newest members of First Methodist Conroe. For this group of eight students, this journey started at the beginning of the school year. They attended the Big Event 6th Grade Retreat, in the Fall, with other 6th graders from South Texas. While there, they had a chance to learn more about our understanding of Wesleyan Grace. They also had some awesome fellowship and worship together. Our Sixers had an opportunity to attend a Shabbat service at Congregation Beth Shalom in The Woodlands. They were able to pray and sing songs in Hebrew! After the service, they had an opportunity to learn more about the Jewish faith and also view a Jewish scroll that had survived the Holocaust. What an amazing experience to view this scroll the same way that others and Jesus himself would have done in the temple. Part of their studies was also to learn about the local church, here at FMC. They were surprised to learn that this campus is actually the third campus for FMC and that many great things have happened over the last 152 years.

During this year, each Confirmand also had an adult sponsor walk beside them. We refer to these adults as Spiritual Friends and they are there to pray for and with them, as well as guide them along the way. I am thankful for the leadership of Karl Hutchins and Sharon Granger, who led this class and have been so faithful to our Confirmation program for several years. They have a passion for helping our Sixers grow in their faith and learn more about what it means to be a follower of Christ and a Methodist.

I want to extend an invitation to our church family to attend our Confirmation service this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. I ask that you continue to keep these Sixers and all our youth in your prayers.
