26th Sunday of Ordinary Time (A) | Sept 27, 2020
Holier Than Thou?
Who do you think would be holier: a priest or a prostitute? Jesus challenges our expectations in this Sunday's gospel reading by telling a group of priests and elders that prostitutes and tax collectors will enter the kingdom of God before they will. Looking at this in light of St. Paul's instruction to think of others as more important than ourselves, I talk in this week's reflection about how God doesn't judge us based on how holy we are compared to other people, but by how humble we are before Him.

Following on this, I want to share with you one of my favorite prayers, the Litany of Humility. I find that when I'm struggling with the sin of pride, or just feeling spiritually out of whack, praying this litany for a few days always helps get me back on the right track. It ends with the powerful petition that "others may become holier than I, provided that I might become as holy as I should." You can find the whole prayer here on our web site.

I hope you have a blessed week.

In Christ,
Deacon Matt

On Our Blog
Ask Deacon Matt:
A former student reached out this week with a question: Hello Deacon Matt! I had a question that came up in my women’s bible study the other week and it has been weighing on my heart: Do protestants go to heaven? The answer was too involved for an Instant Message, so we turned it into a blog post! Check it out!
Do You Know Your Guardian Angel?
October 2 is the feast of the Guardian Angels. The fact that each of us has our own personal angel who is with us all the time is a pretty amazing thing. How cool is it that we each have a super-powerful spiritual creature accompanying us all the time whose sole interest is helping us to get to heaven?! And yet most of us spend approximately zero time each day thinking about our guardian angel. That's why we put together this article to help you form a good adult relationship with your angel best friend.
Thank you for your support!
