Advancing the Business Momentum between Belize and Mexico


On January 29, 2020, the Embassy of Belize in Mexico and the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce of the Government of Belize (GOB), hosted a one (1) day seminar focused on advancing the business momentum between both countries. The core objective of the seminar was to enable greater knowledge sharing and dialogue in advancing strategic investment partnerships in Belize, while promoting enterprise development through increased Belizean exports within Mexico. 
Outsourcing World Summit 2.0: A New Revolution

The Outsourcing World Summit 2.0 held in Orlando Florida from February 16th-19th, 2020, is one of the world's largest outsourcing events that aims to address and educate key industry players on essential issues and activities that affect the outsourcing sector in the present day.

The objective of the summit was to connect, educate and engage outsourcing professionals across various points in the outsourcing value chain. Furthermore, some salient topics discussed at the summit included the global digital transformation and impact sourcing, which focused on educating attendees on this global phenomenon that is transforming the outsourcing sector today. Moreover, the event was geared towards addressing critical issues faced by outsourcing professionals in the fields of governance, client relationship management, Global Business Services, human capital and other relevant areas.

The Designated Processing Area (DPA) Program  (DPA Act, No. 27 of 2018) is intended to support investments that engage in international trade and value addition inclusive of technology transfer, generation of employment and production according to standards of the intended market.
 
What are the eligible categories?

Any company that is registered and formed in Belize, and is involved in any of the following activities: Manufacturing, Agro-processing, Aquaculture, Data Processing (IT Enabled Services), Developer of an Industrial or Business Park.
 
Benefits of the DPA Program (Up to 10 years with an option to renew):
  • Import Duty and Tax Exemptions
  • Exemptions from property and land taxes on the designated area
  • Exemptions from Excise and Consumption (GST) taxes on imported inputs
  • Preferential Tax Rate based on Chargeable Income as per the Income and Business Tax Act (Amendment Act, No.26 of 2018)
  • Opportunity to open foreign currency bank accounts in Belize
  • Opportunity to sell, lease or transfer goods and services between DPA companies
  • Customs inspection at the designated area for expediency
  • Work permits may be granted for up to 15% of workers of the DPA (Senior Management or Technical Staff)
  • Supplies Control and Import Licenses does not apply to inputs used for exports
  • Exemption from the Trade Licensing Act
