"We all come to the theatre with baggage. The baggage of our daily lives, the baggage of our problems, the baggage of our tragedies, the baggage of being tired. It doesn't matter what age you are. But if our hearts get opened and released -- well that is what theatre can do, and does sometimes, and everyone is thankful when that happens."- Vanessa Redgrave

The contest is for students of all ages to write an essay about an influential role model that has had a profound impact on their life. The objective is to help celebrate the people that are most important in influencing the lives of children around the state of Washington.
When writing their essays, students can consider many questions including (but not limited to):
Why is this role model important in your life?
- What life lessons, ethics, or skills has this influential role model taught you?
- Why do you look up to this role model and appreciate having him or her in your life?
- How would your life be different without this role model?
- How would other kids benefit from having a similar role model in their life?

HISTORY OF ENATAI ELEMENTARY LECTURE
|
|
Upcoming Lecture to Highlight Fascinating History of Enatai Elementary
Attention Enatai residents! Learn about the fascinating history of Enatai – both the school and the neighborhood – at an upcoming slide show presentation. The event is free, and takes place on Sunday, February 13, 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center.
Did you know the first public school in Bellevue once sat on the same corner where Enatai Elementary School is now located? By looking at slides of rare and never-before-seen photos of Bellevue and “old school” Enatai, you’ll journey from 1880s Bellevue, through the City’s 1950s boom town era, up to its current-day transformation. You’ll discover how early Bellevue families pooled resources to support their public schools – a tradition that endures today. Plus, you will find out what went into the design and opening of the original 1953 school building, a model of mid-Century modern architecture.
This presentation is part of a series of educational lectures sponsored by Eastside Heritage Center, and Bellevue Parks & Community Services. Click here for more details.
