The Newsletter of
Bellevue High School PTSA

January 6th, 2026, vol 19

The Bellevue High School community is proud to announce the results of this year's highly anticipated Reflections Art Competition! Our students truly embraced the 2025 theme, "I Belong," delivering a stunning array of visual and literary art that confirmed the power of creativity and connection.

It was an extremely difficult decision for the judges, who were deeply impressed by the talent and thoughtful interpretation shown across all categories.

The following list details the awards for the local BHS entries. Congratulations to all participants!

Students marked with an asterisk (*) have entries that will move on to the rigorous BSD 405 District Level Competition!

We are excited to cheer on our advancing artists! Results from the District judging are typically available in February, and those students will be updated as soon as we receive the news.

Every student who contributed their work has shared a powerful message about identity and community. We thank you, BHS Artists, for inspiring us and for helping to define what it means to truly belong!

I‑CONNECT

Do you ever wonder what limits and expectations other Bellevue High (BHS) parents place on their students? Are you curious how your family’s approach compares, or what our broader school community is experiencing right now? At our upcoming IConnect meeting, “The Parent Pulse: Real Answers, Expert Advice,” we’ll explore these questions together on Thursday, January 23, 8:15–9:45am in the BHS library. This event is exclusively for current BHS parents and caregivers.

Together we’ll take the “pulse” of our group with a live Kahoot! survey, then hear thoughtful reactions and guidance from our school counseling experts. It’s a chance to share your voice, gain practical insights, and strengthen our collective support for students and families.

Got a good idea for a Kahoot! question to toss at parents during the meeting? Think school life, student activities, or classic parenting dilemmas. Submit your suggestion here for consideration.

Guest Speakers:

Gina Kinan serves as the McKinney-Vento Social Worker for Bellevue High School and Chinook Middle School, supporting students and families experiencing homelessness or unstable housing. Previously, she spent four years as the Mental Health Assistance Team (MHAT) counselor at Bellevue High School.

Melissa Odegaard is the MHAT Counselor at Bellevue High School. A 23-year veteran of the Bellevue School District, she previously served as the MHAT Counselor at International School.

I-Connect is a community engagement program sponsored by PTSA.

WOLVERINE GUARD COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Wolverine Guard (WG) is a Bellevue High PTSA sponsored award that recognizes students who perform 100+ hours of community service in the 12-month period from May 1st to April 30th of each school year. Each student who reports 100 or more approved hours will earn the Wolverine Guard Community Service Award.

  • ALL BHS students from 9-12 grades are eligible for WG should they meet the requirements.
  • Students who earn WG in a given school year will receive a certificate to recognize their community service. Students who earn WG in at least two of their four years at BHS will qualify for a WG Blue/Gold Honor Cord at graduation; students with 4 years of service at BHS will also be awarded the WG Distinction Community Service Award.
  • Application must include volunteer time logs which should be detailed and with signed (non-digital) signatures from volunteer coordinators.
  • Volunteering is done through a non-profit organization (usually a 501c3 organization).
  • The PTSA WG program is separate from the Bellevue School District volunteer hours requirement for graduation. We DO NOT coordinate with Naviance/Student Link and will only accept Wolverine Guard time logs.

Applications are due midnight on April 30th, 2026. No late applications will be accepted, no exceptions!
