I-CONNECT REMINDER :

"THRIVING AT BELLEVUE HIGH" THIS FRIDAY

IConnect Reminder: “Thriving at Bellevue High” This Friday

A reminder that our first IConnect meeting of the year, “Thriving at Bellevue High:Strategies for Success from the Experts,” will be held this Friday, September 18, from 8:15–9:45 a.m. in the BHS library. This event is exclusively for current BHS parents and caregivers. It’s a great opportunity to learn some practical tips and meet others in our Bellevue High community.

Guest speakers:

  • Kristina Dahl, English Teacher
  • Tim Gager, School Counselor (He–Le)
  • Becki Kao, Office Manager
  • Michelle Pflaum, Parent
  • Matt Stokes, Assistant Principal (A–Ha)

PARKING ADVISORY: Please allow extra time to park and head to the secondfloor library. Do not park in the turnaround before 8:10 a.m. Parking is permitted in “Visitor” and “Staff” spaces; avoid “WANIC.”

SUGGEST A QUESTION: Thriving at Bellevue High: Strategies for Success from the Experts – Fill out form

BACKGROUND: I‑Connect began in 2014 when parent Asako Yoshimura moved with her family to Medina Elementary. She recognized that families entering a new school community often benefit from a place to meet people and build connections. With two other parents, she created I‑Connect as a space for regular, face‑to‑face conversations where families could share experiences and support one another. The program later expanded to Chinook and Odle Middle Schools and to Bellevue High. In 2017, the Washington State PTA honored I‑Connect with a Local PTA and Council Award of Excellence.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: I-CONNECT NOTETAKER

FOR SEPTEMBER 18 MEETING

Do you take good notes? The first IConnect meeting of the year takes place Friday, September 18, from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m. in the BHS library, and we’re looking for a

parent or caregiver who can help by taking clear, useful notes to share afterwards.

The session’s topic, “Thriving at Bellevue High: Strategies for Success from the Experts,” will offer practical guidance for families. Many parents and caregivers can’t attend every meeting, and having a set of notes ensures everyone can benefit from the conversation.

If you enjoy capturing key points or want a meaningful way to contribute, this is a great fit. You don’t need to commit to future meetings; we’re hoping to cover this first session and build a small pool of volunteers for the year.

To volunteer for September 18, or for future meetings, please complete this brief form: I-Connect Note-Taker Volunteer Interest Form – Fill out form

LIBRARY UPDATES

Hey Bellevue,

It was a busy first full week of school, and you made it!

You might have noticed that the library is a super busy place! Students use the library all day long; it's a popular place to get settled before and after school as well as during both lunch periods, and many students use the library as their classroom for a variety of reasons — whether they are Running Start students, Discovery synchronous or asynchronous online students, or advanced world language students doing independent work. In addition to these regular library users, this week we also welcomed five different English class library orientations and a PTSA meeting. Next week I'm expecting eight visiting English classes and two visiting Art classes. The library is also where students come to access the College and Career Advisor, the School Social Worker, the Tech Specialist, and the Testing Center. It's a good rule of thumb to be aware or the many uses of the space that we all share, sometimes with overlap, and respect other patrons by remembering that the library is a learning environment first.

To that end, please note that the library will be closed for 2nd lunch on Thursday, September 17th to accommodate a visiting English class.

As we are still getting oriented, here again are the Library Rules:

  • No eating in the library — Water in closed containers is OK!
  • Please only enter and exit through the main doors.
  • Please sign in.
  • You should have a pass from a teacher during instructional time.
  • Cell phones should always be off and away during instructional time.
  • The library bathroom is reserved for students using the library.
  • Please clean up after yourself and push in your chair when you leave.

Latine Heritage Month (September 15 — October 15) begins next week. Sometimes referred to as Hispanic Heritage Month, recently expanded to include non-Spanish-speaking Latin American people, Latine Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of Latin Americans who have enriched our society. Click HERE to see a growing list of books by and about Latin Americans in our library. Subscribe to Book Riot's Latine Lit Newsletter for literary Latine news throughout the year.

More next week! Remember, if you have any questions, want to find a book, have suggestions, or just want to talk about what you're reading, come see me in the library or send me an email or Teams Chat!
