BHS PTSA Reflections Art Program 2026–2027

Bellevue High School PTSA invites all students to participate in this year’s Reflections Art Program, a nationwide PTA arts program that encourages students to explore their creativity and express their ideas through original works of art. Selected entries may advance to state and national levels.

Theme: “What My Culture Means to Me”

Submission Deadline: November 8, 2026

Students may submit work in one or more categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts (2D & 3D).

We encourage all BHS students to participate and share what culture means to them through their own unique creative voice!

LIBRARY UPDATES

Hey Bellevue,

I had an awesome busy week of book-talking with English classes and Art classes — if you visited and still need a book, come see me and I'll help you find something!

The Library will be closed for 2nd lunch on Monday, September 21st to accommodate more visiting English classes. Thanks for your patience.

September 18th is Type-High Day! Similar to Pi Day (3/14), Type High Day on 9/18 is for letterpress enthusiasts like me to recognize an important measurement in the world of printing: .918 inches is the precise height of all metal and wood type in letterpress printing, ensuring consistent printing across all presses. Now you know what kind of nerd I am

This Sunday, September 20th, 2pm, at our downtown Bellevue King County Library System (KCLS) branch: an author talk and book signing with local Newberry Winning author Tae Keller, author of When You Trap A Tiger and other popular middle grade and YA titles. Free and open for all to attend in person; register HERE to attend on Zoom. The event will be recorded and accessible on Washington State Library's YouTube channel afterwards. More info HERE.

SciFi, Fantasy, and Horror readers: The winners of the Hugo Awards, the Astounding Award for Best New Writer, and the Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book were announced a few weeks ago at the 84th World Science Fiction Convention. Click HERE for the long list of winners and nominees and scroll all the way down for the Young Adult category.

Artists and creatives: here are two book-adjacent art contests to enter!

  1. The Edward Gorey House's 2026 Annual All-Ages Envelope Art Contest (entries due December 1, 2026). (Who is Edward Gorey?)
  2. The 12th Annual Washington State Zine Contest (entries due March 26, 2027). (What's a zine? How can I make one?)

September is library card sign-up month! If you don't already have an all-access card to your local public library, get one now! I'll have our new local branch's Teen Services Librarian in to visit the BHS Library soon to sign you up in person — stay tuned for that.

FIRST SENTENCE FRIDAY

"By the light of the moon, in the frozen heart of the Iron Woods, the dead ones hunted her." — from Rise by Freya Finch, one of this year's Evergreen Teen Book Award Nominees.

As always, if you have any questions, want to find a book, have suggestions, or just want to talk about what you're reading, come see me in the library or send me an email or Teams Chat!

BELLEVUE YOUTH CHOIRS FALL ENROLLMENT

Our rehearsals begin the week of September 8, but we continue to welcome new singers throughout September, with fall enrollment closing October 1.

Bellevue Youth Choirs serves singers ages 4–24, with choirs for beginning through advanced singers and performance opportunities for every age group.

We already have some fun community outreach performances scheduled for our choirs this year, and singers in Lyrica (5th grade+) and our older ensembles also have the opportunity to tour to Disneyland this spring!

This is also BYC's 15th anniversary season, and we're so excited to continue growing and creating a place for young people in our region to sing, learn, perform, and find community.
