Library Resources

of the Month

Digital Magazines

The Bellingham Public Library subscribes to two online resources that provide access to digital magazines: OverDrive and Flipster. All you need is your Bellingham Library card for free access to a wide variety of magazines that you can read on your computer or mobile device!

OverDrive contains a collection of about 1,000 online magazines that are searchable in the CW MARS OverDrive Digital Catalog. This includes the latest issue of the magazine as well as up to 3 years of back issues. There are titles from around the world and in a variety of world languages. Magazine titles are always available, so there are never any holds or waiting! Just a few of the many popular titles include US Weekly, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, HGTV, Cook’s Illustrated, Women’s World, The Economist, National Geographic, Clean Eating, Good Housekeeping, and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. You can borrow and read digital magazines alongside ebooks and audiobooks in OverDrive’s Libby app. The app now includes an article view, which makes reading digital magazines more interactive and enjoyable.

Flipster is a collection of a variety of online magazines. Some titles include All Recipes, American Craft, The Atlantic, Internet Genealogy, Let’s Travel, My Wedding, Mystery Weekly, National Review, Rethinking Schools, and Science News Explores. Back issues as well as the current issue can be accessed. Both the desktop and mobile web browser versions of Flipster support keyword searching within a magazine. You can also search across all issues by accessing the Contents Gallery feature, which allows you to view the table of contents for all available issues of a magazine when using Flipster on your desktop or laptop computer. Note: the Contents Gallery feature is not accessible when using Flipster on a mobile device.

Both OverDrive and Flipster are great ways to access online magazines with just a library card. To access these online resources, go to the Bellingham Public Library’s website at www.bellinghamlibrary.org. Click on the Online Resources tab, then click Digital Magazines. Happy reading!
