March Edition
  Greetings!
Animal Spotlight
Meet Maylee
How can you not fall in love with that face? Maylee was found wandering in rural Muskegon County. This friendly dog was easily caught and taken to Pound Buddies in Muskegon. They got her cleaned up and she was adopted quickly. Maylee's new owners took her to the vet and it was discovered she was heartworm positive and had an ulcer on her eye. The new owners were not able to afford the treatment Maylee needed and returned her to Pound Buddies. That is when they reached out to Bellwether to get Maylee the treatment she needed and on her way to a loving home. She moved in on Feb 23rd to begin her journey to recovery.

Maylee has a long road of treatment ahead of her, but she is up for the trip. First on the list for this 7 year old girl is to gain some weight --she was only 44 pounds! Maylee is undergoing treatment for her eye and will begin heartworm treatment once she gets the greenlight from Fremont Animal Hospital. These are expensive and time consuming treatments, Maylee would love to have you donate to her care. We will let you know when she is up for visitors and can thank you for your support.

Protect Your Animals at Home

Warmer weather brings birds chirping, longer days and dreaded parasites that want to harm your furry friends! Fleas, ticks and heartworms are all preventable if you protect your pet. There are several options for flea and tick control for your dogs and cats. We invite you to discuss them with your vet or call the shelter for ideas. We use  Vectra 3D  for our dogs and  Catego  for cats. Both are monthly topical treatments that protect against a variety of nasty critters. They are available at  Fremont Animal Hospital . Another option for flea and tick control from  Newaygo Vet Services  is Frontline Plus or Bravecto.
Michigan is in a high risk area for heartworm. To avoid situations like our friend Maylee make sure a heartworm preventative like  Interceptor Plus  is part of your monthly care plan. This is available with a prescription from your vet.
