Online Resources and Information
We are happy to announce new additions to our online library of resources!
Together with Biodiversa, a Handbook on Biodiversity Scenarios has been produced that draws on a variety of resources, including the joint projects from the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services II cohort. This new guide provides examples of how to construct and use scenarios for decision making, including lessons learned.
To better inform potential funding partners and organizations leading the Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Actions (CRAs), we have developed three resource guides outlining the delivery and implementation from application through review and post-award monitoring and evaluation. All three documents aimed at Thematic Programme Offices and Groups of Program Coordinators are now available on the belmontforum.org Resources page.
And, if you haven't already, please visit the Belmont Forum YouTube Channel for video tutorials, data and digital object management training modules, and exciting vdieo narratives from current and recent CRA project teams.

1st Belmont Forum Virtual Plenary
To ensure the health and safety of our members, partners, and invited guests, the 2020 Belmont Forum Plenary Meeting was held online October 13-15. Attendees were able to navigate a packed agenda and make decisions about new CRA themes to scope in 2021. Members and partners also warmly welcomed Mountains Research Initiative as a new core partner. We look forward to meeting in person next year in Montevideo for an in-person plenary.

1st Belmont Forum Virtual Open House
After planning and hosting more than 30 virtual events during the first few months of the global quarantine, the Belmont Forum Secretariat became quite efficient at convening groups for synthesis, valorization, and training. What was missing, though, was the informal, interpersonal engagement usually conducted during coffee breaks or social events at meetings.
As a first experiment, the Secretariat hosted a Virtual Open House, inviting funders and coordinators for a casual exchange to initiate and/or deepen our partnerships, explore our approaches to COVID-19, and discuss possible future collaborative opportunities, perhaps with an eye to SRI 2021. There was no agenda. It wasn't recorded and no minutes were taken. Organizations did not need to register.
The first open house went well with a number of funders and coordinators attending. It didn't take long for them to find a discussion rhythm that was not tightly scheduled to the minute. We will learn from and improve upon this first engagement and future open houses in 2021, including events aimed at awardees and a broader transdisciplinary community.

Welcome Amanda Shores and Meagan Postema to the BF Secretariat
Amanda Shores is an ecosystem geographic scientist with a transdisciplinary focus on water sustainability, industrial processes, and community vulnerability. She completed her Ph.D. training in 2017 at Colorado State University studying strategies for reducing water use and environmental contamination in the oil and gas sector. For her Post-Doctoral work, she functioned as the Program Manager for the Secondary Cities Initiative, a Dept. of State and Colorado State University collaboration focused on geospatial mapping and analysis of resources in rapidly expanding, resource-limited cities around the world. As an AAAS S&TP Fellow and a Belmont Forum Secretariat member, Amanda hopes to foster interorganizational collaboration and coproduction research principles that address water security and environmental challenges.
Meagan Postema received her B.S. in Biomedical Sciences from Central Michigan University in 2012 and her Ph.D. in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology from Vanderbilt University in 2019. During graduate school, Meagan developed a passion for science education and STEM outreach at the K-12 level. She became involved with several local non-profits where she helped develop workshops and activities to foster excitement about science and an understanding of potential STEM career paths. This community involvement led to an interest in science policy and Meagan became involved in advocacy at the state level supporting heart and Alzheimer’s research. She is now a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the NSF where she is a contributed member of the Belmont Forum Secretariat.
