Connecting with the SRI 2021 Congress
|
The first Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress is about 6 weeks away, but we aren't waiting until June to get the program rolling. A series of free SRI Talks and pre-Congress events began in February addressing each of the 5 pillars of SRI2021:
- Sustainability for Whom?
- Sustainable Solutions from the Global South
- Knowledge to Action
- Integrated Action for the SDGs
- Resilience
If you missed the talks on the first three pillars earlier this year, don't worry! These were recorded and are available on the SRI Congress Platform. To access this content, you just need to sign up for the next free SRI Talk in mid-May on Integrated Action for the SDGs or register for the full SRI program.
In addition to the SRI Talk series, Belmont Forum is hosting several special free online events in the lead up to and at the SRI Congress:
-
Be Belmont Applicable offers insights into preparing transnational, transdisciplinary proposals. On May 17, a global panel of Belmont Forum awardees will share their experience and tips for bringing together an eligible consortium, engaging stakeholders in the co-design and co-implementation, and co-creating actionable science. On May 19, a technical session will also help interested proposers navigate the BFgo system and access online resources to support their submissions to Belmont Forum. Be Belmont Applicable workshops are free events with an open registration. You can learn more about this event here.
- The Virtual Idea Market provides an opportunity for students, early career researchers, young entrepreneurs, and start-up green innovators to pitch their ideas to a global sustainability audience and grow their networks with other changemakers. Presentation and networking for the Idea Market submissions will take place during SRI and registration is required, but a number of scholarships are available to offset registration costs. For more details on how to be part of the Market and connect with other Congress offerings, please visit this our connect with SRI page.
- We will be navigating different giving cultures and experimenting with funding partnerships at the Partnering Across the Resource Ecosystem roundtable workshop. The Forum invites investors, financiers, and donors supporting the SDGs to work together through collaborative scenarios to identify how we can work together, build a common vocabulary, and find flexible solutions to partnership obstacles. Outcomes from the workshop will be shared in a handbook after the SRI Congress. Please register and help us move discussion into action!
Please check the Connect with SRI webpage on belmontforum.org for more events and opportunities to engage as we look forward to the launch of the 1st SRI Congress!

The Congress itself will run June 12-15, 2021. We will be connecting a global audience through the Congress Pathable Platform and offering content at all hours to make it convenient to all time zones. The program includes more than 100 sessions, fora, trainings, workshops, and events on all aspects of sustainability. Some program highlights:
- Sustainability of biodiversity conservation: too expensive for humans or can we find solutions?
- Addressing systemic risks in social-ecological systems: mountains as contexts for evidence and action
- Tackling air quality and human health with new thinking and technologies
- Green finance: overcoming capital cost barriers to low-carbon energy projects through public-private partnerships
- University transformations for transdisciplinarity and the SDGs
- A dialogue forum for learning from previous experiences of the stakeholders: what are our urgent missions on disaster risk reduction and societal resilience building?
- Critical social science perspectives on transformations to sustainability - emerging framing and approaches
- Building resilience through youth leadership in environmental education
- Tradeoffs and synergies in ocean conflict transformation
- Indigenous data sovereignty - principles, partnerships, and tools for sustainability
- The (Sustainable) Future is Female: advancing gender equality in sustainability leadership
Please visit the full program online. New side events are being added each week to the main program to connect sustainability researchers, innovators, implementers, and funders. With such a rich program bringing together a diversity of knowledge holders, we can't wait to welcome everyone to SRI2021!
Register today to be part of this milestone event. A registration fee helps support the delivery of this exceptional global program. Scholarships and registration waivers are available. We hope to see you online in June!
