City of Beloit Receives RAISE Grant for Ho-Chunk Nation Beloit Project Infrastructure

The City of Beloit and the Ho-Chunk Nation have been informed by U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan that the City of Beloit will receive $13.4 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation for road improvements near Willowbrook and Colley roads.

The Ho-Chunk Nation recently moved the land into trust, a requirement for the American Indian tribe to build and operate a casino. The complete project includes a hotel and convention center, waterpark, restaurants, and other amenities. Construction is expected to begin in 2023.

“The City of Beloit looks forward to collaborating with the Ho-Chunk Nation in providing enhanced infrastructure as part of this development,” said City Council President Regina Dunkin.

City of Beloit Revaluating Properties in August

The City of Beloit is completing a full revaluation of property values and will mail out updated assessments on August 29, 2022. Revaluations ensure assessed values are based on current market conditions, which leads to more equitable assessments for property owners. While properties will be taxed using the updated assessments in December 2022 (payable in 2023), the City is subject to levy limits that restrict the maximum amount of taxes collected each year. The levy limit does not increase based on the change to assessed property values.

If property owners have questions about their assessment, they should visit www.beloitwi.gov/revaluation for additional information. They may also call 608-368-7584 between September 1 and October 7, 2022, to schedule an appointment to meet with a member of the assessment staff during the open book period.

Turtle Creek Embankment Restoration Project Begins

A project to restore the Turtle Creek bank in the greenway is starting this week and is expected to be completed by November 15. During construction, some trails will be closed, and a temporary trail will be open to bypass the construction zone. The map in this post shows the construction zone and temporary trail.

This project will restore some of the creek bank that has been heavily eroded, which is now hazardous to pedestrian traffic along the Turtle Creek Greenway Trails. The end result will maintain the natural environment that visitors come to the creek to enjoy, while preventing future issues.
