WELCOMING WEEK
We all know what it feels like to not belong — let’s change that for others! Join Redwood City for Welcoming Week from September 10-19, 2021 to celebrate communities that know how to welcome others. Welcoming Week is a worldwide event led by Welcoming America.

Welcoming Week Events

SAT SEP 11, 6-8pm

SUN SEP 12, 1-3pm at Magical Bridge Playground
Learn about the RCPL program for families with children ages 3-10 who have been identified with ASD or other learning differences.

MON SEP 13, 6:30pm an online event
Learn how to de-escalate a hate crime or hate incident and how to provide safety, support, and solidarity to the person being targeted. Presented by Council on American-Islamic Relations-SF Bay Area (CAIR-SFBA).

TUE SEP 14, 10am at Marlin Park
Join us for a very special Storytime in the Park! At Marlin Park - Cringle Drive side, shaded area by restrooms.

MAKERSPACE IS COMING SOON!
We are thrilled that Zone 4 Construction of San Carlos will begin work on the Downtown Library’s Makerspace next week! Pardon our dust while we transform our former Computer Lab into a space for creation and collaboration.

Redwood City Library Foundation has less than $100,000 left to raise to fully equip and furnish the space. Donate today to ready the Makerspace for our grand opening. If you want to buy equipment you can also check out our Amazon Wish List!

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. There’s nothing more empowering than a library card. Through access to technology, learning resources and educational programs, libraries provide people of all ages the opportunity to pursue their dreams and passions. ⁠

Sensory Friendly Storytime: Meet the Librarians
Meet us at the Magical Bridge Playground on Sep 12 to learn about the RCPL program for families with children ages 3-10 who have been identified with ASD or other learning differences.

CAIR Bystander Intervention Training
On Sep 13 learn how to de-escalate a hate crime or hate incident and how to provide safety, support, and solidarity to the person being targeted.

Dial-A-Story
Looking for a new way to entertain your little ones in the car or at home? Introducing Dial-A-Story! Stories on demand are a phone call away! Our newest Storytime offering allows you to listen to a collection of preselected stories in English and Spanish over the phone. We also have songs by Librarians Pam, Armando and more! New material will be added every month.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
WED SEP 1 & THU SEP 2, 2:30pm
Join us for an afternoon of movement, breathing and energy work. Registration is not necessary. Session continues September 22 and 23.

THURSDAYS, 10am
Join us for storytime in Roselli Park right outside the Downtown Library.

TUE SEP 7, 6pm
It's back! The group meets year-round and is open to all non-native English language speakers who are interested in developing their speaking fluency.

WED SEP 22, 4pm
Children from 3 to 5 years of age are invited to enjoy stories, songs and crafts. Pick up materials at the back of the Downtown Library starting at 4:00 PM.

SAT SEP 18, 10am
Please bring your donations in bags/boxes that you will leave. Every donor must wear a mask and will be required to load the bags or boxes onto carts.

LIBRARY SERVICE UPDATE
Below is a list of services available at this time.

  • All Redwood City Public Library locations are open for limited in-person service. Visit our RCPL Limited Edition page for hours, available services, safety guidelines, and more.
  • Curbside drop-in service for holds pick-up is available at the Downtown Library during open hours
  • Bookdrops are open to accept returns
  • Computers for 1-hour use are available at all locations during open hours
  • Our events are online! Check our calendar here.
  • Meeting rooms at the Redwood Shores Branch Library are open to the public, more information here.
  • Borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks; use streaming TV, movie, and music services; and access digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines here.
  • Online resources are available to current card holders and new cardholders. Don't have a card? Sign up here
