NEW Food & Hygiene Drive for Springfield | |

ICE is terrorizing Haitian and other immigrant families in Springfield. The MVUUF Social Justice Committee is organizing a food and hygiene drive to help replenish items in the assistance boxes which are “flying out the door” in Springfield. Those who are able can donate any of the following items in the marked boxes as you enter worship on Aug. 30 and Sept. 6. Please bring only these items: dried beans (one or two pound bags), canned chicken, shelf stable milk, peanut butter, diapers (size 5, 6, 7), shampoo, conditioner, dawn dish soap, laundry detergent, toothbrushes and toothpaste, sanitary pads and liners.
Also appreciated, but not as high a priority: bagged rice (one or two pound bags), apple sauce cups, boxed foods (cereal, ramen, spaghetti, etc.), canned foods (corn, peas, ravioli, tuna, etc.), diapers (size 4 and under), baby wipes, and unopened toiletries.

Greeter Coordinator John B. would like to invite MVUUF members to volunteer as a Sunday Service Greeter once a month as members & visitors arrive. This is an excellent low-effort way to get to know other MVUUF members and to let visitors know that they are truly welcome (if you can say “Hi, how ya doin’!” We want you!!). Youth in Middle and High School will meet in the Parlor at 1 PM. Children in Preschool through 5th Grade will begin in the Worship Service before going to Children's Program after the Story for All Ages. Families should plan to pick up their children at 2:15 PM.

Sorrows
For another week, we hold the sorrow of the world in our hearts. We pray for those in Gary, Indiana, who have been without power for over three weeks, as well as our Haitian neighbors, who did everything right, but continue to be targeted.
Joy
Several members expressed their appreciation for Sunday's music, which featured a variety of MVUUF musicians. It was truly a delight!

You can purchase it by clicking on the button below to find a seller. As part of our commitment to justice and equity, we encourage everyone to shop Black-owned bookstores (like Elizabeth's Bookshop and Writing Centre in Akron OH, which is both Black-owned and LGBTQIA+ owned).
If a Black-owned store doesn't have it, try to find it locally; and if you can't find it to purchase, try the library!
