San Francisco - December 31, 2012 - Author Belva Davis, is a foundational player in Bay Area journalism with a career spanning more than five decades. Since becoming the first black female television journalist in the West in 1964, she has covered events of local, national, and international scope; interviewed US Presidents and other world leaders; and, for the past 19 years, served as the host of KQED's must-watch public affairs program "This Week in Northern California." Belva announced her retirement from broadcasting last year, and signed off the air on November 9.

Join news-makers, colleagues and friends in celebrating Belva's historic career with a reception and a program of interviews, tributes, and surprises presided over by former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown.

Nonprofit Alert--Low Power Radio Filing Window - Here in no Time!

While October 2013 may seem a ways down the line, it's really not if you or your organization want to get involved with one of the new low-power radio stations that will come into being over the next few years in the biggest giveaway of broadcast infrastructure to the public most of us will ever see. Application support is available, so just don't think about it, take action. Among others, Northern California's Common Frequency can guide you through the process with an expert hand.

More Media Monopoly is Bad for America

The X-mas sneak to relax the media ownership rules (again!) while nobody was watching was defeated by your comments, letters and articles. But it's only a brief reprieve.   If you haven't filed a brief comment reminding the FCC that they work for you and not just for Rupert Murdoch, now's the time to take a second and do it.

Get the details about these to news stories from Media Alliance.
