What's for Lunch?

Dear Ben Franklin Families,

We are filled with excitement as we prepare to welcome our students back for the first day of school on Wednesday, September 3rd! Our entire staff has been working hard to create a warm, welcoming environment—from cleaning and setting up classes, to fine-tuning lessons—to ensure every child has a joyful and successful start to the school year. The start of the year is about teaching routines, expectations and building trusting relationships. So, for the first few days, your young children may be coming home a bit more tired as they get used to school.

As a reminder, Wednesdays are early release days, and students will be dismissed at 2:30 PM. Please plan accordingly. Also, our first day for 4K students will be Thursday, September 4th. We can’t wait to greet our youngest learners and begin this exciting journey with them.

In the spirit of the new year, I want to share a quote that reminds us of the magic of learning:

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” – William Butler Yeats
Let’s work together to ignite that spark in every child this year.

Lastly, I’m re-sending our drop-off and pick-up procedures below. We’ve had many new families enroll and several others update their information since our last message, and we want to ensure everyone has what they need for a smooth start.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Here's to a fantastic school year ahead!

Kind Regards,

Justin Goffard

Principal

As we prepare for a great school year, I wanted to share important reminders about our morning arrival and afternoon dismissal procedures. Our top priority is always the safety of our students, and your cooperation makes a big difference.

Morning Arrival

  • Drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m. Students may enter the building and wait in our front hall until 8:35. When the 8:35 bell rings, all students will head directly to their classrooms.
  • Students are considered tardy if they arrive in their classroom after 8:47 a.m.

Since Ben Franklin only has our youngest students, parking lot safety has always been a point of emphasis.

Safety of your children is our top priority. With that in mind, I want to share the measures we have implemented to ensure a smooth and secure process during bus drop-off/ Dismissal and parent drop-off/pick-up times.

Morning Bus Drop-Off:

1.Supervised Entry: Staff members are stationed to greet students as they exit the buses and guide them safely into the school building.

2.Designated Zones: Buses unload in a clearly marked and restricted area to separate them from parent vehicles and pedestrian traffic.

Morning Parent Drop-Off:

1. We ask that parents drive slowly and be patient with our line. Please also pull all the way forward. If you stop right in front of the doors, you may be preventing other cars from being able to pull forward and drop off.

2. If students cannot unbuckle and exit vehicle in roughly 10 seconds, we ask that parents park. This keeps our drop off line moving. All adults who are parking are expected to walk their child/children across the lot to the front doors

3. Please have your children able to exit your vehicle only from the passenger side of the car to avoid exiting into parking lot traffic.

4. Along with parent expectations, we have personnel stationed outside to help supervise for safety.

Dismissal Times

  • Regular Dismissal: 3:45 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • Early Dismissal on Wednesdays: 2:30 p.m.

Afternoon Parent Pick-Up:

1. Safety Protocols: Parents are asked to stay in their vehicles and display their child's/children's names.

2. Staff members escort students to their vehicles.

Afternoon Bus Dismissal:

1. All bus lines wait inside until the bus arrives.

2. Once a bus arrives, the line is walked out and supervised by an adult.

3. At no point will students cross the parking lot to get to a bus.

General Safety Measures:

1. Staff Presence: Trained staff are present to oversee both drop-off and pick-up, ensuring that students exit and enter vehicles safely and efficiently.

2. Our school resource officer is called in to periodically review our drop off and dismissal and give us suggestions for improvement. We last did this in mid-October and were given positive feedback

How you can help:

1. When driving in our lot, please remember to drive slow and to be off of cell phones.

2. To further support safety, it may be wise to discuss with your child the importance of following instructions from school staff during these times.

We also appreciate your cooperation in adhering to traffic rules and being patient as we work to provide a safe environment for everyone.
