GWINNETT COUNTY TAKES STEPS TOWARD PARK PLACE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT

On Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of eight acres of property at $500,000 an acre along East Park Place Boulevard near Stone Mountain, which is located within the Park Place Tax Allocation District and the Evermore Community Improvement District.

A Tax Allocation District is an area where projected increases in property tax revenues fund redevelopment projects within that area.

The County’s approval of the redevelopment of the Stone Mountain Tennis Center site in March of 2024 laid the foundation for a comprehensive master plan that will steer the area’s future development.

The Board of Commissioners also approved a $217,000 contract with Sizemore Group, LLC to create a master plan for the Park Place community, seen as a key gateway to southern Gwinnett by the county with significant growth potential.

The new master plan will evaluate current conditions and incorporate community feedback to formulate specific recommendations on land use, transportation, and open spaces. Core priorities encompass transit-oriented development, housing diversity, and strategic redevelopment. The master plan's funding will come from the proceeds of the tennis center site's sale.  Acquiring the property along East Park Place Boulevard will support the future execution of the Park Place Master Plan.

The County plans to integrate input from residents and stakeholders throughout the process to ensure the master plan aligns with the community’s vision and objectives.
