We invite all parents to the first General Meeting of the Parent Community Organization which will be held on Wednesday, October 17th from 7 - 8 pm. Meeting attendees will learn about the activity plans, fundraising information and volunteer opportunities for the year. This is a great way to stay informed and get involved!

Health Screening Information
The nurses will be conducting state mandated health screening in the coming weeks. Students in Grades 1-3 & 7 will have their hearing screened. Students in Grades 1, 4 and 7 will have their height and weight checked. Students in grades 1-5 & 7 will have their vision checked. If we have any concerns about your child's hearing or vision we will send a letter home to you. We will not send home letters about height or weight. Tiered Focused Monitoring Review
Heather Zolnowski, Executive Director of the Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School was informed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education of an upcoming Tiered Focused Monitoring (TFM) Review that will be taking place this school year. As part of this TFM Review, Department staff will visit the charter school during the week of November 12, 2018. Such visits are routinely conducted by the Department to satisfy federal and state requirements for the periodic review of specific education programs and services in schools throughout the Commonwealth. The Department is reviewing several programs during a single visit in order to use Department and school staff’s time most efficiently and to encourage strong connections among the programs.

The Department's TFM Review will involve reviewing charter school procedures and individual student records, interviewing administrators and a Special Education Parent Advisory Council member, and surveying parents of students with IEPs. After the onsite visit, a report will be prepared for the Executive Director and Board of Directors, with detailed findings.

Using a scale of ratings ranging from “Commendable” to “Not Implemented,” the report will rate the implementation of each requirement reviewed by the Department. Where requirements are found not implemented or only partially implemented, the district [or charter school] must propose to the Department corrective action to bring those areas into compliance with statutes and regulations. Districts and schools are encouraged to incorporate the corrective action into their district and school improvement plans and professional development plan. The school district [or charter school] will be provided with technical assistance from the Department in developing a corrective action plan. Both the Department’s report and the corrective action plan are public information and will be available to the public upon request. Any member of the public may request to be interviewed by telephone by a member of the Department's visiting team. Those wishing to be interviewed should call the charter school leader’s office at (508) 541-3434 no later than 11/9/2018 to leave their name and phone number, or they may call the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at (781) 338-3704. A member of the visiting team will contact each person desiring an interview within two weeks after the completion of the onsite visit. If an individual is not comfortable communicating in English or requires some other accommodation, the Department will make arrangements to communicate appropriately with the individual.
Operation Gratitude
Mrs Kaplan will be collecting candy again this year to send to our troops and first responders. Candy will be collected at the ramp on the mornings of Thursday November 1st, Friday November 2nd, and Monday November 5th. Last year we collected over 200 pounds to send to Operation Gratitude to be distributed to our troops and first responders. Please help me reach that amount again.

I will also be collecting cards and notes to send as well if you would like to add a note of thanks or encouragement.
Grade 8 SSAT Course
The SSAT course will be offered for Grade 8 students beginning on 10/18, 10/25, 11/1 and 11/8 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Please contact Mrs. McCoy if you are interested in having your son/daughter participate.
Grade 7 Capstone Info Night for Parents
7th grade parents, are invited to a Capstone Information evening on Tuesday, November 6 at 7:00 pm in the BFCCPS Auditorium. Capstone is the culminating community service project that all BFCCPS students begin in 7th grade and complete in their 8th grade year. Please read more details in this announcement.

BFCCPS is planning a fundraising gala for the spring of 2019! Volunteers will be needed for this committee to secure auction items and help with the actual event.

Parent Community Organization
The Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School Parent Community Organization (PCO) is an all-volunteer parent organization that supports our school by organizing and funding educational and social programs that enrich student experiences and foster a sense of community among all families and staff. Save the Date: School Photos
Save the date! School photos will be taken with  O’Connor Studios  on October 23rd. All students will have their photos taken for the school yearbook, and student ID’s. Order forms for families wishing to purchase their child(ren)’s portrait and or class photos will be sent home with students in advance of the event.

If you have any questions please contact the PCO at . Retakes and the makeup day for any student who is absent on photo day has been scheduled for November 27th.
Save the Date: Fall Book Fair
Mark your calendars! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming Tuesday, November 6th – Wednesday November 7th. All classrooms will have the opportunity to visit and parents are invited to attend. Extended hours have been added on Tuesday, November 6th to 5:00 P.M. for your convenience. Remember, all purchases benefit our school. Thank you for supporting our readers!

Capstone Corner
As part of our Capstone Project you will see a number of Grade Eight students scheduling donation drives, dine out nights, after school activities and more. Over the coming weeks we hope you will peruse the various announcements and see if your family will be able to support any of these projects. Nitin T will host a toy drive for the Medway House from October 10 through October 31st.

James H is collecting supplies for Feral Cats as part of his Capstone project. Items to be donated include: Cat Food, Cat Litter, Paper Towels and Trash Bags. He will collect supplies from Oct 10- 19th.

Maddie L . will hold a Donation Drive for new art supplies to create "Joy Jars" between October 15 and October 19th. Click here for details.

Reyad and Rishik will hold a Pin Down Tournament on 10/19 from 3:30 to 5pm. Advance registration is required. Please click to download a registration form.

Vivian H. is supporting the Franklin Food Pantry by holding a food drive for food and health products (shampoos, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes etc) please consider donating during the week of October 22 through 26.

Elle Y will hold a clothing donation drive for Meals on Wheels from October 22 through November 9th.

Michael B will be selling Key Chains to benefit his Capstone project from November 1 through November 16.

Notes from the Central Office
Visitors:    All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Visitors must be escorted at all times. Thank you for your help with this! 
Parking & Parking Lot Safety: Parking is not allowed in marked reserved spots near the schools main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff.  

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures :  Please adhere to the posted arrival and dismissal procedures which are posted   here our website.

Absence and Dismissal Notification:   If your child will be absent or tardy from school, please log in to your School Dismissal Manager account and update their daily attendance.

Dismissal Changes: Dismissal Changes are due to the School Dismissal Manager software by no later than 2 pm.

As a reminder, BFCCPS has an   extended absence policy  which indicates that extended absences for non-medical reasons for more than 10 consecutive school days will not be approved and will result in dis-enrollment from BFCCPS unless caused by exceptional and unavoidable circumstances, such as a natural disaster, serious accident, or other situation deemed exceptional and unavoidable by the HOS.
