Why prepare your company for a Department of Labor Audit?
  1. If you prepare in advance you should be able to limit how long an auditor spends with your company, reducing the amount of time employees are pulled away from their normal duties.
  2. You can be reasonably sure that you won't owe any back wages, fines, penalties or unforeseen attorney fees. For further information on how to prepare for an audit, download our white paper, "Don't Roll the Dice on Department of Labor Audits."

The IRS has released the 2017 inflation  adjusted amounts for health savings accounts (HSAs). To be eligible to make HSA contributions, an individual must be covered under a high deductible health plan (HDHP) and meet certain other eligibility requirements. An HDHP has a higher annual deductible than typical health plans and a maximum limit on the sum of the annual deductible and other out-of-pocket expenses.

Here are the details:
  • HSA Contribution Limits. The 2017 annual HSA contribution limit for individuals with self-only HDHP coverage is $3,400, and the limit for individuals with family HDHP coverage is $6,750.
  • HDHP Minimum Deductibles. The 2017 minimum annual deductible for self-only HDHP coverage is $1,300 and the minimum annual deductible for family HDHP coverage is $2,600.
  • HDHP Out-of-Pocket Maximums. The 2017 maximum limit on out-of-pocket expenses (including items such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, but not premiums) for self-only HDHP coverage is $6,550, and the limit for family HDHP coverage is $13,100.
The $50 increase in the annual HSA contribution limit for individuals with self-only HDHP coverage is the only change from 2016. All of the other amounts are unchanged.

DOL Issues Another FAQ on ACA Implementation

Employers should be mindful of the following mistakes concerning workplace posters. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has issued its 31st FAQ on the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), dedicated to coverage of preventive services, rescissions of coverage, out-of-network emergency services, clinical trial coverage, cost-sharing limitations, the Mental Health Parity Act, and the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act.
