A Message from Jim Sullivan

President, NEEBC Board of Directors

Jim is a Principal at Mercer.
What a difference a year makes! As we headed into the summer of 2015 there was still snow on the ground in South Boston and the Red Sox were mired in last place. A year later we escaped the winter relatively unscathed and the Sox are tied atop the American League East. While 2015 was a good year for NEEBC, 2016 has brought a renewed energy and excitement to the entire organization. The programming in the first quarter was very strong - led by our largest Health Insurance Market Outlook program in years. And as far as energy and excitement goes, there's nothing like having the sitting governor speak at the Annual Employee Benefits Summit to charge up the employee benefits professionals in the region! Governor Baker's presence and address was preceded by a truly exceptional day of programming, learning, networking and a lot of laughs. Personally I took great pleasure in not tripping on my way up on the stage.
I find myself tremendously fortunate to be assuming the role of President of NEEBC in 2016. The membership is vibrant, the programming is exceptional, the board is a great representation of the diversity of the employee benefits profession in the New England area, and the NEEBC staff is well positioned to continue to support all of us as we continue to grow in our careers and lives. I can only hope that in three years I can hand this role to my successor in as great shape as Karen Hunter did for me.
Finally, I was struck by how many people stopped me at the Benefits Summit to ask what they can do for NEEBC. Channeling my best John F. Kennedy (the president, not our board member although he does have some great quotes too), what can NEEBC do for you? We want to know what's important to you. What's missing? What do you need more of...or less of? What topics do you want to hear more about? NEEBC is about the membership and we're here to serve you.
OK, one last thing. For those who asked me what they can do; get involved. Join a committee. Attend some events. Bring us a topic you think the membership might be interested in hearing about. Come out for a round of golf in the annual golf outing and get to know people. We're here for you and we look forward to seeing you!
     Have a great summer!

I want to extend special thanks to the Summit Planning Committee and John Brouder for all their efforts to create a dynamic, sold-out event, and to the 56 Exhibitors. The 15 conference speakers provided thought leadership and inspiration for each session throughout the day - starting with Rick Weil as the morning keynote, to all our panelists and afternoon speakers, and our special guest speaker to conclude the day, Governor Charlie Baker - THANK YOU!  Please view our photo gallery from the day.
